Apple Has Just Announced the iPhone 4S, Not Stereo 3D Capable

October 4th, 2011 · 3 Comments · General 3D News

As expected today Apple has announced their next smartphone in the iPhone range, the new device is called iPhone 4S (not iPhone 5) and contrary to all the rumors about the new iPhone getting stereoscopic 3D support it does not come with a 3D display or a camera. The new iPhone 4S is just an upgrade of the previous iPhone 4 following the same path Apple went on with the iPhone 3G and 3GS update. Apple may have decided to add stereo 3D capabilities to their mobile smartphone in the next version that may as well be called iPhone 5 or iPhone 3D or whatever, but for now you are stuck with the nice high-resolution Retina display in 2D and a new 8 megapixel 2D camera. The only thing you get to have in dual is the dual-core A5 processor… so Apple will not yet join the battle of the 3D-capable smartphones and will not directly compete for now with LG’s Optimus 3D, HTC’s EVO 3D or the upcoming Samsung Galaxy 3D, at least in terms of stereo 3D capabilities. The new iPhone 4S will start appearing on the market on 14th of October, in black and white versions and with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB configurations for $199, $299 and $399 USD respectively. Initially iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK, then iPhone 4S will roll out worldwide to 22 more countries by the end of October including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. And until the end of the year it should be introduced in 70 more countries around the world…
