Asus is Showing Their New 27-inch VG278H 120Hz 3D LCD Monitor

March 5th, 2011 · 22 Comments · GeForce 3D Vision

Asus has a strange history in regards to showing some 3D monitors at events such as CES or CeBit and these monitors never actually appearing on the market. They are trying to be first, but only in showing a prototype on a big event and then releasing a different product on a market at a later time. This already has happened with the Asus VG242H that never came to the market, but instead Asus VG236H was released at a later time. Then Asus was the first company to show a 27-inch 3D monitor that months later again has never appeared on the market and now at CeBit 2011 Asus is showing a new 27″ model, the Asus VG278H that we are probably soon going to have on the market… hopefully as early as April.

Asus VG278H 3D Monitor Specifications:

Display size: 27″, 16:9 Widescreen, LED backlight
Panel Technology: TN (Twisted Nematic)
Resolution: 1920×1080 @ 120Hz
Contrast ratio: 1000:1 / 50,000,000:1 (Dynamic)
Brightness: 400 cd/m2
Response Time: 2ms (gray-to-gray)
Internal speakers: 3W x2 Stereo
Connections: HDMI, DVI-D (Dual-Link), D-Sub, HDMI 1.4, Earphone Jack

The 27-inch Asus VG278H 3D monitor follows the general design of the smaller VG236H monitor the company released last year, but there are some differences as well. The new 27-inch model apparently will be using a LED backlight, will have a built-in 3D Vision IR emitter and also have support for stereo 3D over the HDMI 1.4 interface. I expect that it will be pretty similar in terms of performance to what the 27-inch Acer 3D monitor that I’ve already reviewed, but we’ll have to wait a bit more to see.

CES 2010: Video Interview with Gary Key from ASUS

January 18th, 2010 · 4 Comments · General 3D News

Neil Schneider from MTBS3D.com is here with another video interview from CES 2010, with Gary Key, Technical Marketing Manager at ASUS. In the video you can learn a bit more about the upcoming 27″ Full HD 3D-capable display from Asus and the already available 3D Vision capable laptop – the G51J 3D. The 27″ ASUS PG276H 3D-ready monitor is expected in late May – early June with a price of about $549-$599, I’m just hoping that this product will not repeat what has happened with the Asus 24″ VG242H 120Hz LCD Monitor that never appeared on the market…

What Happened With Asus’ VG242H 120Hz LCD Monitor?

December 30th, 2009 · 12 Comments · GeForce 3D Vision

Do you remember that earlier this year Asus has announced and shown a 23.6″ LCD display with Full HD resolution that was capable of working at 120Hz, and do you know what happened to it? Well, I don’t know either… and Asus had a working model of the VG242H available during COMPUTEX 2009 back in June, although it is still not available. Asus was expected to have the display available on the market by the end of the year, but it is still not here… and there is no word on when or even if it will be made available, not to mention that meanwhile the company missed their chance to be the first with a Full HD 3D-capable computer monitor. The reason for that is the announcement of The Acer Aspire GD245HQ 3D Vision-capable Monitor that has already started appearing on some Asian markets with soon to follow availability in other markets in January/February 2010.

Anyway, here are the known specifications for the Asus VG242H 120Hz:

Display size: 23.6″, 16:9 Widescreen
Panel Technology: TN (Twisted Nematic)
Resolution: 1920×1080 @ 120Hz
Contrast ratio: 20000:1 (Dynamic)
Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Response Time: 2ms (gray-to-gray)
Internal speakers: 2Wx2 Stereo
Connections: HDMI, DVI-D (Dual-Link), D-Sub, Audio-In Jack, S/PDIF Audio output, Earphone Jack
