GeForce 270.51 Beta Drivers with New Features and Performance Boost

March 30th, 2011 · 28 Comments · GeForce 3D Vision

Today Nvidia has released a new beta video driver version 270.51 after not being very active on the driver updates since the beginning of this year. The new beta version is offering some interesting new features and the traditional performance boost, most significant in the Dragon Age 2 game as well as for users with 3D Vision Surround setups this time. This is the first release from the Release 270 family of drivers and it finally comes with a NVIDIA Update feature that can help you stay up to date with the latest WHQL drivers by notifying you when a new driver is available and directing you to download the driver. With Release 270 drivers, the 3D Vision Controller driver is now included with all GPU driver installations, so you will no longer need to download and install this separately from the video driver. The 270.51 driver package includes version 270.47 3D Vision Controller driver.

The 270.51 driver also has new features added to 3D Vision window mode, including the addition of support for HDMI 1.4 3D TVs when using 3DTV Play software, including DirectX 9 games, Google Earth, and 3DVisionLive.com. The 3D Vision window mode now works with Windows Aero enabled and you can turn it on and off from the NVIDIA Control Panel. There are also performance improvements for DirectX 9 applications when using NVIDIA SLI and 3D Vision, as well as improved 3D Crosshair performance in Source Engine games (the driver laser crosshair).

The new driver also adds support for new 3D Vision Desktop LCD monitors: Tongfang LM2230W; new 3D Vision projectors: Acer X1261P, Acer X1261-3D, DepthQ HDs3D-1, NEC NP-V300X, Sanyo PDG-DXL2000; and new 3D Vision All In One PCs: Acer Aspire Z5673, Lenovo B520. There is 3D Vision Surround support when using 3D Vision monitors with built-in IR emitters. The new driver comes with new 3D Vision game profiles: Alice Madness Returns, Crysis 2 (including multi-player demo), Dead Space 2, DeathSpank, Dragon Age II, Duke Nukem Forever, Dungeon Defenders, Dungeon Siege III, Fable III, Faxion Online, F.3.A.R., Final Fantasy XIV, Homefront (DirectX 9 and DirectX 10), Lego Universe, Need for Speed World, Portal 2, Richard Burns Rally, Rift, Section 8: Prejudice, Shift 2 Unleashed, Shogun 2: Total War, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Test Drive Unlimited 2, The Sims Medieval as well as updated profiles for MX vs. ATV Reflex and Monster Hunter Frontier Benchmark.

3D Vision Driver CD Version 1.44 Beta (266.35) Has Been Released

January 4th, 2011 · 16 Comments · GeForce 3D Vision

Today Nvidia has released a new beta driver CD version 1.44 for 3D Vision that is based on the new beta video and 3D Vision driver number 266.35. This also marks the first officially available version of the release 265 drivers which is the next major update in terms of features that has been released after the R260 not too long ago. One of the major new features in the new drivers is the addition for the option to view 3D photos directly in the browser window at the new updated 3DVisionLive.com community portal also updated today. And since I’ve already discussed that in a bit more detail in the previous post, I’ll just cover the other new features made available, as they also deserve some attention…

Nvidia has been mentioning 3D Vision Window Mode support for games as an upcoming feature for quite some time and now it seems that it is finally making its appearance as the release notes mention 15 games that already support it. This means that you will be able to play these games in stereo 3D mode not only in full screen, but also in a window mode in stereo 3D while at the same time you may have other 2D applications also open. This seems to be a bit of a challenge as you have to define the apps that should be in 3D mode in order for things to work, so maybe Nvidia is working on another profiling method, or more like extending the 3D Vision profiles, with MMO games being the priority. The full list of games that should work in window mode in stereo 3D with the new driver is as follows: Aion, Crazy Racing Kart Rider, Crossfire, Dragon Nest, EverQuest 2, Guild Wars 2, NED, PopKart, QQ Dance QQ, QQ Xian Xia, Tian Long Ba Bu, World of Warcraft – Burning Crusade, World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King, Xun Xian and Zhu Xian 2. As you can see from the titles here, there seem to be quite a lot of Asian games that don’t seem very well known, at least to me, with them also getting official 3D Vision profiles along with a few other games. The drivers also support stereo 3D window mode in Google Earth, finally.

The new driver also adds support for two new 3D Vision projectors: Acer X1261P and Sanyo PDG-DXL2000. But more interesting and important is the significant update that includes support for more recent Mitsubishi 3D DLP television sets, including the 2010 series that also got a free firmware update to support HDMI 1.4 stereo 3D input. The full list of additional models that are now also supported includes: Mitsubishi WD-83838, WD-83738, WD-73838, WD-73837, WD-73738, WD-73638, WD-73C10, WD-65838, WD-65738, WD-65638, WD-65C10, WD-60738, WD-60638, WD-60C10, L75-A91.

Nvidia Surround is also updated, with improved performance for 3-way and 4-way SLI configurations, as well as an updated 3D Vision Surround and NVIDIA Surround game support list, although the new list is still not available on Nvidia’s website. The release notes also mention support for some new 3D-capable LCD monitors, but these were actually added in earlier releases, so they are not entirely a new feature for the 266.35 drivers. The mobile version of the drivers has pretty much the same features and it also mentions added support for new 3D Vision notebooks: Acer Aspire 5745DG, ASUS G53Jw, ASUS G73Jw. Interestingly enough the mobile version does not mention the 3D Vision Window mode as the desktop version does, but that does not necessarily mean it is not supported.
