Is the IR emitter included with both kits one and the same? No difference at all?

Yes, there is no difference in the IR emitter, the difference is only in the glasses.

Thanks. Is there a way to buy only the emitter?

Also, why is it that for monitors without built-in emitters 3D over HDMI isn't possible?

Officially the IR emitters are not being sold separately, but you can sometimes find ones sold on eBay for example.

With HDMI 1.4 the synchronization is done via the interface so you need the device receiving the 3D signal to sync up the glasses, and you cannot do that with an IR emitter connected to the PC over USB, you need to have the IR emitter integrated in the display.

Thanks.

Oh ok, got it.

Are you also aware of the 3D problems with the XL2420TX wherein the monitor is in 3D mode but is not actually syncing properly with the glasses and thus no 3D effect?

Not on the TX specifically, but I've seen other models with various problems resulting in the glasses not being able to sync with the image on the display.

Well, here's the issue on it: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... -working/1

I don't know how to fix it other than sending it back to BenQ for a firmware flash.

You'll have to get a replacement unit, it is not like you can flash the newer firmware on the monitor yourself.

Alternatively using an external IR emitter may help in getting around this problem with the built-in emitter.
