The Movie Jurassic Park Will be Getting Converted to 3D

March 16th, 2012 · 9 Comments · 2D to 3D Conversion

Roughly 20 years after the original premiere, the classic movie Jurassic Park will be seeing its re-release on the big screen, converted in 3D format. The premiere of the 2D to 3D conversion of the movie has been announced for July 19th, 2013 or a bit more than a year from now. There was already information about the possibility of the conversion to 3D for Jurassic Park circling around for a while now, but now it has been officially confirmed by Universal Pictures as they have apparently convinced the director Steven Spielberg to also take active part in the conversion. This will be the first of Spielberg’s directed movies to get the 2D to 3D treatment following in the footsteps of Lucas’ Star Wars and Cameron’s Titanic 3D conversions. And if you ask yourself if the 3D conversion of Jurassic Park will be any good, hopefully it will be as there is enough time to make it good, but we’ll have to wait and see…

It was bad enough when the only movies coming out were sequels/prequels or were based on books or TV or even older versions of the same movie “re-imagined”, but now they don’t even care about making new-ish movies and are straight-up releasing old movies, with the 3D supposed to be the reason why you would pay for a movie ticket to see it again.

Ugh it will def. be a high convergence(pop-out) based film. They will just knock up the convergence whenever a dinosaur scene(close-by) happens and ask for a premium price. I would of lost faith in 3d filming if it weren’t for peter jackson. It seems like he is focused more on proper depth then convergence.

I worked on the Titanic conversion and it looks amazing. I was personally sick of 3d movies but that is because of all of the shitty ones that got released. Titanic changed my mind. And now we’re gonna do Jurrasic Park. It will be just as good!

Hopefully Cb! But isn’t Speilberg into 3D that stays in positive space like Lucas and Jackson? That kind of 3D doesn’t look that good to me. Cameron likes 3D that ventures into negative space and just pops.

eqzitara, I doubt JP will have any or much pop out. The Hobbit’s 3D is extremely boring and disappointing to me. Everything in the Hobbit is made of cardboard with shallow depth between the cardboard layers. I wish I were joking but everything is literally 2D objects in a shallow 3D plane.

Cb, I heard the Star Wars conversion was really far from good. Are you gonna tell us that’s because you haven’t worked on it? ;-)

i did seen one day ago the “Puss in Boots 2011” look crazy good with 3D vision. I mean not like before time. Now just better and better with 3D vision…

I think all the star trek movies would make a very good 2d to 3d conversion and some tv shows

The release date of the 3D conversion of Jurassic Park apparently will be moved from July 19, 2013 to April 5, 2013…

Cb, can you tell us if, like for Titanic, Jurassic Park is also having a fresh 4K scan, and the framing of the shots are being looked at, because some of the frames won’t look good in 3D, needs re-adjustment within the Full Aperture plate.
