StarCraft II Patch 1.1.0 Now Live with 3D Vision Support for the Game

September 21st, 2010 · 3 Comments · Stereo 3D Games

Another interesting update today is the official release of the StarCraft II Patch 1.1.0 that was supposed to make the game perform great in stereoscopic 3D mode by using Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology. Well the patch is now already available in USA with the European release expected in a few hours, unfortunately because of that fact I’m still not able to try it, so everyone from the States is welcome to report on the improvements in the stereo 3D support in the new patch. Of course aside from the official 3D Vision support the 1.1.0 patch for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty brings a lot of other improvements and fixes, along with balance improvements of course.

    they just fixed the bugs…
the 2d things are still 2d
and 3d icon portraits are still messed up if you set up convergence at ground

No, it’s not actually like Arnold said-

What they did was override and disable NVidia’s depth settings and introduce their own convergence / depth settings available from the Options panel. good stuff and i hope other companies take note.

The best settings imho are turning both depth and convergence somewhat high. So you have lots of depth, but 90% of it exists behind the screen. (certain mountains and peaks poke through the sceen). At proper settings the 3d portraits come out looking perfect behind the frame and there is incredible depth. our office tends to think its the best example of 3d yet.

last great tweak is the selection arrow follow the terrains surface in 3D. so it seems as natural as it could be.

kick ass blizzard!! show em how it’s done!

Best example of 3D is Avatar because you get depth and things popping out the screen.
