Stereoscopic 3D Trailer for the Upcoming Movie Tron Legacy

July 20th, 2010 · 6 Comments · 3D Movies & Videos

The movie Tron Legacy is scheduled for a release on December 17th and it will be in 3D with the big question being will it become the next big holiday hit following in the footsteps of Avatar or not. Tron Legacy certainly looks promising, but in the trailer the 3D effects are not that impressive as you’d probably expect, but then again you better see for yourself. The trailer is in 1080p half horizontal resolution (squashed), Side by Side format, so you’ll have to select 16:9 aspect ratio when opening the video with the 3D Vision Video Player or the Stereoscopic Player…

That’s truly disappointing. I mean, I see that you have to use a very low seperation for cinema but in the last few weeks I spent some time on the mathematics of stereoscopy and even for a big cinema screen you can use a lot more depth. I hope this will change until the release of the movie.
And I don’t get why the real life scenes have to be in 2D. Is there any reason for that or is it just in the trailer in 2D? Because I’m pretty sure that not only a virtual world is 3D but the life as well ;-)

I am excited about the movie, but the 3D I feel is a gimmick. I know lot of people that got headaches after watching th eoriginal tron and the tron videogames. Now with 3d they will get twice the headaches , most likely!!!!

Very bad trailer… real life scenes are 2D and virtual scenes have a very bad 3D. I really hope this is not an official trailer and the final movie will be a lot better or it will be a complete flop !

from what i understand the official trailer will not depict how the movie will be in 3d. But from what i heard IMAX will be offering it in 3d and IMAX does pretty well when it comes to 3d movies.

saw the movie at a 3d imax. the 3d was very poor, and except for the ending credits, the 3d effect went behind the screen, not in front like avatar. Seemed like they used some sort of plane system to get the effect. very unconvincing. at times i took off glasses to see the ‘3d’ cgi scenes had virtually no depth and could see a clearer image with no glasses.
