FIFA World Cup 2010 3D TV Stream Sample – Argentina vs Nigeria

June 14th, 2010 · 21 Comments · 3D Movies & Videos

The FIFA World Cup 2010 has started and some lucky people are able to watch some of the matches in stereo 3D thanks to Sony filming and broadcasting the event in stereo 3D, but unfortunately this is not available in everywhere. So here is a short sample recorded from 3D TV stream from the football/soccer game between Argentina and Nigeria, showing the goal that ensured Argentina’s win in the match. The original broadcast was quite bright and had some ghosting around the players running on the green field, so I’ve applied some “ghost-busting” to improve the situation. Also the stream is in 1080i (interlaced) and squashed half resolution, but I’ve recompressed it into a full 1080p, deinterlaced and in Side By Side format, although the quality is not like it would’ve been with a true 1080p broadcast. There is very little pop-out as you’ll see and the depth you get in the wider shots is not that much, but still a good preview on what you can expect from future sports broadcasts in 3D… and they will probably improve more and get better with time and experience. As usual don’t forget to share your comments below if you download and watch the video and feel more than welcome to share any video in stereo 3D format you’ve made or found somewhere…

sorry for the third message but this sample is the first one that didn’t work from your website (which is great). As another poster requested, can you upload the original unmodified version so I can try that?

It would be nice if you also uploaded the videos to Youtube as YT3D and linked or embedded in the blogposts. For us without the 3D Vision Video Player…

  • 12 Bloody // Jun 15, 2010 at 19:38

Come on, don’t let me do everything here on my own… Everyone can download the Side by Side version and upload it to YouTube with the yt3d tag and share the link here… ;)

What about the original video ?
Where did you get it ? I’d like to see it unchanged…

Here is the original TS file, it is in 1080i format, half resolution (squashed), so you need to select 16:9 aspect ratio and the deinterlace option in the 3D Vision Video Player… also be prepared to see some ghosting in it: FIFA_WC2010_Argentina_vs_Nigeria_Sample_in_Stereo_3D.ts

sorry website is not uptodate again.

can you pls download also spain-switzerland in 1 hour?

btw: here one can get two versions of stereoscopes. a) mirror (36 chf/usd)-for small up to very large images and prism glasses(12chf/usd) for 12cm wide images and up to 1m distance or more. both of very good quality. mirror-stereoscope is from sonice, buy it from http://www.nvp3d.com if you are in europe, or from http://www.berezin.com if you are in america-continent.
prism glasses are copyrighted by nvp3d-a swiss 3dvideo-pro. it has variable prisms. nose-gap is a bit too small. i have it enlarged by 5-6mm.
    i added rubber string too.
its fantastic for parallel viewing, youtube etc. stereocards too (120mm wide). use viewing screens of stereodatamaker-cameras. videos cannot be viewed cross-eyed.
    thanks a lot

the fifa world cup 2010 was the greatest event, as it was host here in South Africa we treated the guests so well and we provided them good hospitality,so that they can reember our country for being good and may have desire to visit our country again at any time.

Just watch the ts version using the Panasonic’s Plasma TX-P50VT20E.. the view was spectacular.. no ghosting or crosstalk. The ball did appear a little blurred at times, especially when moving quickly.. this was also apparent when I switched on edge smoothing. It is likely that the footage focused on the players rather than the ball so to give a smoother flowing image.

    p.s. patiently waiting for 3DTV PLAY :-/
