Kevin Cox, together with the help of Christoph Bisping have figured out how to make the 3D Screen Activator work with the touch-sensitive “3D” button on Toshiba Qosmio F750 and F755 3D laptops. So in the latest version of the 3D Screen Activator software (1.1) you are able to switch between the 2D mode and thee different 3D modes that the software supports with the press of this 3D button on the laptop. A feature that was really needed as I’ve mentioned in my recent review of the Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D laptop, and it is now available, making the 3D Screen Activator software almost perfect. It is of course a must have free tool for every owner of Toshiba Qosmio F750 and F755 laptops as the default 3D capabilities of these are quite limited and with the help of this software you can actually get the most out of the laptop.

3D Screen Activator is the new name of the “Screen Mode Changer” software made by Kevin Cox. It is a very useful free tool that allows you to unlock the full potential of the Toshiba Qosmio F750 and F755 3D laptops that come with autostereoscopic 3D display (no 3D glasses required), but its 3D capabilities by default are quite limited. Using the 3D Screen Activator software you can switch any application in a window or in full screen into 3D mode accepting either Side by Side or Row-interleaved format. This means that you can view videos in stereo 3D mode using your favorite video player, you just need to set the application to use the right 3D mode via the 3D Screen Activator and have the 3D videos encoded in Side by Side or Interleaved format. Using this software together with the iZ3D driver or DDD’s TriDef 3D software you are also able to rung games in stereo 3D mode, although the video cards in these laptops from Toshiba are not the best choice for gaming, especially in stereo 3D mode. So if you have Toshiba Qosmio F750 or F755 3D laptops this software is a must. And the only thing that I’m missing from the old Screen Mode Changer in the new 3D Screen Activator software is the availability of a hot-key that will allow you to quickly switch back into 2D mode without having to go through the menu of the software in the system tray, hopefully such a feature will be available in the next version.

An interesting and useful free tool for owners of Toshiba’s Qosmio F750 3D laptops (should also work on Qosmio F755, try and report that if you have one) written by Kevin Cox that allows you to change the screen mode between 2D and a few 3D options with just a keypress. The tool uses F12 by default as a hot key to switch the mode of the display and it supports: standard 2D mode, Side by Side 3D mode (Left-Right), Side by Side 3D mode (Right-Left), Interleaved 3D mode and Interleaved inverted 3D mode. You can easily change the activation key if F12 does not work well for you. The tool can be quite handy and even help you overcome some of the currently somewhat limited 3D functionality of the laptop.
