The 24″ (23.6-inch to be precise) ViewSonic V3D241wm-LED is probably the next 3D Vision compatible display that we all are going to wait for with high hopes that it will be even better than the already available 120Hz models so far. There is still not a lot of information regarding the V3D241wm, but judging from what is known so far it will most likely be based on the same panel as Acer Aspire GD245HQ. The key difference will be the presence of a LED backlight instead of the traditional CCFL one that is found in the Acer for example and all other currently available 120Hz displays. Now the big question is what improvements will the LED backlight offer as compared to the CCFL and if that will actually bring any benefits when playing with this display in stereoscopic 3D mode? Traditionally LED backlights offer wider color gamut, better color reproduction, even backlight across the whole screen area, “blacker” black, higher contrast ratio and maybe even higher brightness. But if the panel is the same as the one used in the Acer you should not expect that much of a difference in performance between the two displays just because of the LED backlight, but since there is still some time before the ViewSonic V3D241wm-LED hits the market we better not get our hopes too high and expect it to be much better than what we already have. This way if it turns out to be really better we can be happily surprised instead of getting disappointed, which in my opinion is better. The release of the ViewSonic V3D241wm-LED is scheduled for the second quarter of the year which means it might be as early as April, so there is some time left and maybe we’ll soon have other interesting announcements from other display manufacturers…

Thanks to Acer and one of their local distributors today I was able to get a hold of a test sample of the new Acer GD245HQ 120Hz 3D-capable Gaming Display that has just arrived. It will take another month before the actual units for sale are available on my local the market, but I’ll be ready for when that happens and you’ll also have more information if you are interested in this particular display for 2D gaming at 120Hz or for Stereoscopic 3D gaming with a pair of 3D Vision active shutter glasses from Nvidia. Expect my first impressions and an in depth review in the next days and meanwhile you can take a look at the unboxing video above. Also feel free to ask anything you want me to check or test on the monitor, of course besides the obvious things like input lag and ghosting that I’m going to check anyway… ;)

There is some information on the net already that Acer will most likely be the first company to offer a 23,6″ LCD monitor that will offer Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution and of course being with a 120Hz panel. This means that most likely Acer will be the first company to release on the market a Full HD monitor that will be compatible with GeForce 3D Vision, and this monitor seems to be right about to hit the shelves. Furthermore this gaming display should not be a lot more expensive compared to the already available 22″ offers from Samsung and ViewSonic that are still the only ones with 120Hz panels on the market so far. Of course we’ll have to wait and see until this new display is available on the market, but I’m eagerly anticipating it already… ;)
