DDD has just released a new beta version of their TriDef 3D Ignition software for playing games in stereoscopic 3D mode (it is just the Ignition software, not the whole TriDef 3D package) and it is something that you might want to try out, especially if you play Battlefield 3 in stereo 3D. TriDef 3D Ignition 3.5.18 Beta 4 provides a better stereoscopic 3D profile for Battlefield 3, it also adds profile for the recently released Diablo 3 and fixes some other things.
TriDef 3D Ignition 3.5.18 Beta 4 changelog:
- Added new game profiles for Diablo 3 and other games.
- Improved performance of Power 3D in DX10/11.
- Fixed a few visual bugs in Battlefield 3 and Batman Arkham CIty.
- Fixed a game launch issue in Windows 8.
- Added a search box in the Add Game dialog.
According to a just published stereoscopic 3D review of Battlefield 3 over at MTBS3D, the profile for Battlefield 3 in the latest beta of Ignition makes the stereoscopic 3D experience while playing the game with DDD TeiDef 3D Ignition better looking than using the game’s native stereo 3D rendering on AMD HD3D and Nvidia 3D Vision. With the best part being the lack of “flatness” when you are in a vehicle or in the cutscenes, something that is happening when using the native stereo 3D rendering from the game. And although this might’ve been something made intentionally by the game developers, most stereoscopic 3D gamers usually prefer to have more depth than to have things appearing “flat”. Another thing that apparently works quite well with the game is the Shift One Eye, Dominant Eye feature also recently introduced by DDD. If you try the new beta software with Battlefield 3 feel free to share your feedback below and the same goes if you are already playing Diablo 3 and want to test it with the new profile added in TriDef 3D Ignition 3.5.18 Beta 4. And just a reminder, this is a beta software, so there could be some issues.

Following the release of the TriDef 3D Ignition 3.5 Beta 1 last month, now comes a new official release in the form of TriDef 3D 5.2. The new official version pretty much includes what the Beta release of the Ignition software introduced with a few more updates.
TriDef 3D 5.2 Release Notes:
TriDef 3D Ignition
- Virtual 3D has been improved in terms of both quality and performance and renamed to “Power 3D” (DX 9 only, so far – DX10/11 Power 3D optimisations coming soon)
- Improved DirectX 10/11 game performance (Battlefield 3 in particular)
- Added support for Need For Speed: The Run, SOL Exodus, Unstoppable Gorg, Alan Wake, Trine 2, Microsoft Flight, Torchlight, APB, Tribes Ascend Beta, Blacklight Retribution and various other games
- Improved the following game profiles: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Sonic Generations, Batman: Arkham City, RayCity and other games
TriDef 3D Media Player
- Fixed an issue which caused 3Di DVDs to playback incorrectly
The DDD TriDef 3D software package enables the viewing of movies, photos and games in stereoscopic 3D mode on compatible hardware, it is one of the two middle-ware solutions (the other being the iZ3D driver) used for ensuring stereo 3D support on AMD hardware (apart from the few games that support natively the AMD HD3D technology), but the software is also compatible with Nvidia-based video cards as well.

If you have purchased a 3D-capable monitor that comes bundled with a OEM version of the TriDef 3D software for use in stereo 3D mode you might get stuck with using older version of the TriDef 3D software while DDD releases newer versions only for their Retail product. If you look at DDD’s website you may notice that the OEM version of the TriDef 3D for the Samsung 3D monitors for example is already ore than half an year old and meanwhile there have been a few updates for the Retail version released. The OEM version for Viewsonic 3D monitors is a bit newer than the one for Samsung, but still a few months old, the LG and AOC OEM versions are more recent, but still older versions. But that does not mean that you will have to be stuck to these old versions and will have to keep waiting and hoping that DDD to release updates for them, there is a solution to get the latest TriDef 3D version 5.1 installed and working on your system…
There is a simple trick that you need to do in order to get the latest Retail version of TriDef 3D installed and working with your OEM-compatible Samsung, Viewsonic, LG or AOC 3D monitor. First you need to install the OEM version of the TriDef 3D software for your hardware as it also installs a license for the 3D monitor you may have (for example the LG D2342P CINEMA 3D Monitor), then you need to uninstall it and install the latest Retail version of TriDef (currently 5.1) and it is supposed to work without asking you to activate it or get a new license as you already have the display license installed from the OEM version of the software that is originally intended to be used with your monitor. Have in mind that if you don’t have an compatible 3D monitor that works with any of the OEM versions of the TriDef 3D software this simple trick will NOT make the Retail version of the TriDef 3D software work with it. This trick works only on 3D monitors made to work with any of the OEM versions of TriDef.
