We have another stereoscopic 3D video made available by the Explore Media Group. This time it is Al Caudullo interviewing Frank DeMartin from Mitsubishi, who talks about the company’s DLP-based 3D products and some of the future plans. This video can give you a nice idea on what to expect from the upcoming 3D TV channels when there will be interviews with someone in 3D. You can kind of feel like you are sitting next to the two guys you see talking in the video when you are watching the video. The level of the sound in the video however is a bit low so you may have to turn up the volume, you also need to select Side by Side format and 16:9 aspect ratio when opening the video and you are asked about the 3D format of the file by the 3D Vision Player or the Stereoscopic Player. The video is also available in stereo 3D format on YouTube 3D in other 3D formats such as Anaglyph, Row interleaved, for Crosseye viewing and so on. Feel free to share your comments about the video if you download and watch it…

The guys from Explore Media Group are very active lately and they shared yet another stereoscopic 3D video of the infamous Bellagio Fountain display shot in Las Vegas. This is the second video they release, filmed in the evening following a long day at CES 2010 that shows the difficulty of shooting 3D at night time. Although it is not overtly 3D, it offers a subtle 3D experience and the depth is more than visible on the waters edges, still looking quite impressive. The video in a Side by Side HD format that you can watch in 3D Vision stereoscopic player of the Stereoscopic Player, just don’t forget to select Side by Side format and manually set the 16:9 aspect ration in the player. There is an HD version of the video available on YouTube 3D, so you can also watch it there with a pair of anaglyph glasses or any other of the 3D systems that the service currently supports, but for best quality you better download the video. You can also go to the 3DGuy website for some interesting things related to stereoscopic 3D and as usual please don’t forget to leave your comments if you watch the video…

The guys from Explore Media Group were kind enough to share yet another short stereoscopic 3D video, this time shot at Night at Las Vegas. Las Vegas 3D Nights video was recorded in the evenings after CES 2010 to demonstrate the difficulty of shooting 3D at night, as the dark sky makes it hard to give the impression of depth, which is pretty important to 3D. As with the previous videos this one is also in a Side by Side HD format that you can watch in 3D Vision stereoscopic player of the Stereoscopic Player, just don’t forget to select Side by Side format and manually set the 16:9 aspect ration in the player. There is an HD version of the video available on YouTube 3D, so you can also watch it there with a pair of anaglyph glasses or any other of the 3D systems that the service currently supports, but for best quality you better download the video.

Neil Schneider from MTBS3D.com did another video interview at CES 2010, this one features David Cole and DJ Roller, Co-Founders of NEXT3D. What is interesting here is that the company plans to launch its Next3DTV service – a broadband-delivered stereoscopic 3D HD video download beginning in the first quarter of 2010, so this means pretty soon and even before Blu-ray 3D titles start to appear. Next3DTV is supposed to offer a variety of stereoscopic 3D content, including theatrical 3D movies, films originally created for 3D IMAX theaters, movie trailers, sports, news, documentaries, live 3D weather maps, and games. Additionally it will offer user-created content channels for stereo 3D enthusiasts to post and share stereoscopic videos and still images. Movies, special events, games and other premium content will be offered on a rental basis (you’ll not own the content), while some of content will be free for everyone. One of the first announced big content providers for Next3DTV is Turner Broadcasting System with others probably soon to follow.

Next3D has Stereoscopic 3D Full high definition encoding and player technology for nearly every platform: PCs, Mac, Xbox 360, PS3, Blu-ray disc and television set top boxes. Content encoded with Next3D’s enabling technology delivers full stereoscopic 3D in 1080P high-definition to the home over a broadband, cable or satellite TV connection. Next3DTV will be initially available for PC’s, with support for Mac, game consoles and select set top boxes to follow. For PC users, Next3DTV will support 3D Laptops, most NetTop PCs, and modern PC’s with NVIDIA or ATI video cards. During CES 2010 the technology has been demonstrated on NVIDIA 3D Vision System. So far in theory everything sound very good, but the gaming part is still not very clear as well as the international availability of the content and of course the pricing, because of the content rental and you not actually purchasing and owning the 3D content. An affordable monthly subscription plan, just like a cable TV, with access to all the content along with good and always fresh stereoscopic 3D content might make things very interesting for everyone.

Neil Schneider from MTBS3D.com has managed to find and take an interview from James Mentz, President & CEO of Bit Cauldron while at CES 2010. I’ve already written a bit about them and their plans to Offer Alternative to Nvidia’s 3D Vision Shutter Glasses a few days ago. Bit Cauldron still don’t reveal every detail, but have told some interesting things and they sound quite convinced about the advantages of their glasses, although we’ll still have to wait for the second half to see them on the market. It seems that Bit Cauldron has been working for quite some time together with AMD/ATI in order to bring stereoscopic 3D support to the owners of ATI-based GPUs. But when talking about gaming you’ll still have to use some sort of middleware software like iZ3D’s Driver or DDD’s TriDef as it seems that these two companies will be supporting Bit Cauldron’s glasses at first. James Mentz said that they are also open to work with Nvidia (the green company) and others of course in order to work on standards that in the end will benefit the end customer the most, because he’ll be able to use just one solution for all his stereoscopic 3D needs – TV, movies, games, photos… no mater if it is for the PC, the HDTV, the console or something else. So lets see how things will develop and meanwhile I’m getting more and more eager to test these glasses…

Neil Schneider from MTBS3D.com is at CES 2010 and is already providing us with some very interesting information, even before CES 2010 has officially started. In the video above Neil interviews Steve Venuti, the President of HDMI Licensing with the main focus being the Stereoscopic 3D features and use of the new HDMI 1.4 specifications. There is also some very interesting information regarding the PlayStation 3 game console and its upcoming S3D support that should be added later this year with a firmware update. It seems that this software upgrade for the console will allow it to achieve some of the HDMI 1.4 functionality like stereoscopic 3D support, but the console will not have all of the new 1.4 specifications available, because the Ethernet Channel for instance requires not only new software, but also new hardware. Still we now know that Sony will be adding stereoscopic 3D support by software upgrading its HDMI to 1.4, so when buying a new 3D TV for PS3 you should also look for HDMI 1.4 support available on the TV. What is not yet clear however is if the PS3 will be able to provide 1080p stereoscopic 3D support or it will stock to 720p when playing in S3D mode, but we might as well very soon find out if Sony is going to announce more details about that on CES.
