Nvidia has released a new Full driver CD version 1.20 for 3D Vision owners containing both the GeForce and the 3D Vison drivers version 196.21. What is the most significant change in this driver release is the addition of beta support for Tripple/Quad SLI VGA setups for owners of really high-end PCs (beta means you might still have trouble making it work!). The new driver also support for Alienware OptX AW2310 120Hz LCD monitor and Acer GD245HQ/GD235HZ 120Hz LCDs, although they worked with version 1.18 too. There are also fixes that are supposed to resolve the issues for people having problems with using the Generic DLP mode or CRT displays with 3D Vision (anyone with such please report if they fixed the problem with detection). And as last, there is also a new game profile for the recently released game Dark Void. Please note it is recommended that you disable dynamic shadows for this game!

A little more than a month ago LG has announced that they are ready with 23-inch 120Hz LCD panels and during CES the company was already showing the first display to use these panels. LG W2363D will be the first 23″ 120 Hz 3D-capable monitor under the company’s brand, but I’m expecting a lot more display using the same panel to come out later this year. The LG W2363D display has to be out in the market in the second quarter this year, just before summer, but unfortunately there is no word about the expected price yet. In the mean time Alienware revealed their OptX AW2310 23″ 3D Full HD display and it seems that the company already started taking orders for it at a price of $499 in USA. It appears that Alienware’s specs are similar to the ones announced from LG, but there is still nothing confirmed about what panel is being used by OptX AW2310, although it will probably become clear pretty soon as the first reviews of the new Alienware display will probably be available pretty soon…

Announced specifications for LG W2363D:

Panel Size: 23″ Widescreen, 16:9
Panel Type: TN – Twisted Nematic
Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)
Contrast ratio: 70000:1 (dynamic)
Response Time: 3ms (typical) (GtG)
Speakers: SRS Tru-Surround HD Speakers
Video Connectivity: DVI x1, HDMI x2
Other features: Thru mode (no input lag?), Noise reduction (3D N/R), Auto-brightness (input source)

CES is giving us a lot of news and the next interesting one is the announcement of the 23-inch
Full HD 3D Vision compatible Alienware OptX AW2310 monitor. The monitor is equipped with a 120Hz panel with 3 ms response time and high brightness (400 cd/m2 compared to the normally 300 cd/m2 on other 3D displays) and contrast levels (up to 80000:1, but dynamic), although it is not very clear what panel is being used, and this might be one of the first monitors using the new 23″ LG 120Hz panels announced a month ago.

Alienware OptX AW2310 has a nice-looking design and has an option to adjust the swivel, tilt and height to suit your personal preferences and all that you can get for $499, although the display is currently listed only on some local Alienware websites (New Zealand and Japan for instance), but will probably soon appear on others…

Alienware claims that this display also has a low input lag, but does not state a number of milliseconds. They also mention something interesting that the input lag is low “In DVI mode only” which is probably related to the fact that you need to use the DVI for 3D mode and/or when playing with 120Hz refresh rate…. still this needs a little further clarification.
