Stereo 3D Content Services Available for LG Cinema 3D HDTVs

February 23rd, 2012 · 3 Comments · Other S3D Tech

Last month SpatialView has announced the release of a special version of their 3DeeCentral platform for LG Cinema 3D TVs, so that users could watch different stereoscopic 3D content directly from their 3D-capable TV set. The LG Cinema TVs shipped in Canada are supposed to already feature Spatial View’s 3DeeCentral as a premium app and it was supposed to be also available in the LG Apps TV Store worldwide, but after a check I still could not find it listed there in the LG Apps TV in multiple countries. But looking through the LG website with information about applications for their Cinema 3D TV sets I’ve found something else interesting, that there is another similar application released a few days ago – Yabazam 3D…

Yabazam is a similar platform offering stereo 3D content, both free and paid, to what SpatialView’s 3DeeCentral, but Yabazam is a platform being developed by DDD, the same guys that make the TriDef 3D software solution. Currently the Yabazam 3D is the most popular free application in the US LG Apps TV for example and it is also available for other non US users to download an try on their LG 3D TV set. So if you have a compatible passive 3D HDTV from LG, then you might want to try it, as well as the 3DeeCentral app if you manage to get access to it.

Another option also available is the 3D World coming from LG directly that also offers you a free 3D VOD service for watching some stereoscopic 3D content being made available by LG. You get to choose between a few different categories of content and unfortunately similar to the other two platforms, here with the 3D World app the situation is similar. There is not that much content available and you can quickly get to watch everything that is available already, but still, if you haven’t explored the extra functionality for using additional applications on your LG Cinema 3D TV, you should at least try this app as well.

What is still kind of a problem for both stereo 3D content delivery platforms however is that they do not yet have a lot of content in 3D format, so when you start using them you will quickly get to watch all of the available content and then you will have to wait for something new to appear and that can be quite annoying. Also these services are still far from offering the latest 3D movies that Hollywood is producing in order for you to use them instead of getting a Blu-ray 3D version of the movie for example, but this is something that could help them a lot an drive more users. Aside from getting them supported on multiple different 3D-capable platforms, something that they are already doing and constantly expanding the coverage to new devices.

3DeeCentral is Now Available for HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D

February 7th, 2012 · 4 Comments · General 3D News

SpatialView has made available their 3DeeCentral software for Android-based 3D-capable smartphones such as the HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D, the application itself is free and is already available on the Android Market. By installing it on your 3D-capable Android-based smartphone you can get access to the 3D content being offered on the 3DeeCentral platform, however not yet all of the 3D images and 3D videos from the PC version of the software are available in the mobile version of the application. At the moment of writing this post there was only one 3D image pack and 72 3D videos avaialble in the mobile 3DeeCentral for Android-based 3D-capable smartphones, but hopefully the rest of the content will soon be available as well. The good news is that there is quite a lot of free 3D content that you can download and try, I did test the 3D photos and some of the 3D videos available on the LG Optimus 3D smartphone and they looked very well on the device’s autostereoscopic 3D display. So if you do own an HTC EVO or LG Optimus 3D (LG Thrill 4G in US) smartphone, then this appl is something that you should try out on your device. And while SpatialView’s 3DeeCentral is shaping to be very nice a multi-platform solution for easy access to 3D images and 3D movies from different types of 3D-capable devices, the lack of a lot of 3D content available through it is still what is holding it back a lot.

The 3DeeCentral Software for iPhone Gets New 3DeeCamera Feature

January 4th, 2012 · No Comments · Other S3D Tech

SpatialView’s 3DeeCentral software for watching stereoscopic 3D content on iPhone got an update allowing you to easily capture photos in stereo 3D with the single camera available on the iPhone 4/4S and then to preview the photos in 3D on the smartphone. In order for this to work you need to use the 3DeeCentral software together with SpatialViews’s special adapter called 3DeeSlide for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that transforms the 2D display of the phone into an autostereoscopic 3D one (with reduced resolution in 3D mode). You can see a demonstration of the new 3D photo taking feature on the video above, it seems quite easy and there is a ghost image being displayed to help you take the second photo, and there is an extra adjustment phase for the two photos available after that, so that the resulting 3D image could be great. Not sure if the software can already take advantage of the improved camera features such as higher resolution in the iPhone 4S, most likely not yet as it requires the use of iOS 4.3 and not iOS 5 as a minimum. The only drawback is that you would need to move the 3DeeLens on and off the screen quite a lot if you are taking multiple pictures in 3D using the application. The interface could probably be easily tweaked, so that you will not have to do all the acrobatics with moving the lens that makes the screen in 3D and then removing it to see it back in 2D when taking 3D photos. Also sharing of the 3D photos you have taken with this application could be a bit limited, especially if you want to send it to someone that does not use the 3DeeCentral software. Also have in mind that the 3DeeCentral software is free, but it does not work on jailbroken iPhones.
