Today Nvidia has released the first WHQL driver from the R265 series after the not long ago released first beta at the beginning of this month. The new 266.58 WHQL driver does have a few additions as compared to what was announced with the earlier beta 266.35, so if you have the beta installed already, then you should also upgrade to the WHQL. This is currently just a driver release and not a full 3D Vision Driver CD, but such should be soon available too, so you may need to download separately the IR USB emitter driver if it stops working after you update the driver.

The new 266.58 driver includes support for the upcoming Acer GN245HQ and Acer HN274H 3D Vision-ready LCD monitors that will have built-in 3D Vision IR emitters and that will support both DL DVI for frame sequential stereo 3D as well as HDMI 1.4a for consumer electronic devices that support stereo 3D. The driver also introduces support for the new 3D Vision All-in-On PC ASUS ET2400XVT. Aside from the 3DVisionLive.com photo and video streaming support that was updated in the beta driver, the new WHQL one also comes with improved scaling quality with video streaming content from the 3D portal, so the 3D videos you watch using there will look with smoother edges instead of more blocky ones. Another good news is that the new driver also fixes the problem with the game Call of Duty that was showing with 3DTV Play when you activate the “iron sights mode” (zooming down the weapon) that I’ve mentioned some time ago.

Today, with the release of the new GeForce GTX 580 GPUs Nvidia has also released new drivers version 262.99, however these apparently only work with the new GPUs. So if you haven’t updated your 3D Vision driver for a while as well as your GPU drivers you can download the 3D Vision Driver CD 1.38 that was released yesterday and that includes the updated drivers version 260.99 WHQL. This driver update is especially important as it includes 3D Vision game profiles for Call of Duty: Black Ops that just got released today as well as Tom Clancy’s HawX 2. The new drivers also add update for new 3D Vision-capable LCD monitors like the Planar SA2311W I’ve already mentioned about here on the blog, as well as Hannstar HS233 and I-O Data 3D231XBR that will soon be available. What I was surprised to find was that the 3D Vision Video Player packed in the release is not the latest version 1.6.4 and is instead is an older installation for 1.6.2, but I suppose this will be quickly resolved. Below is the link for downloading the latest driver CD, but it is not linking to the official Nvidia website, but instead to the new GeForce.com that was just launched in beta, so you can take a quick look at it too.

This just came out right before the 2010 PGA Championship live streaming in 3D starts. The CD v1.34 contains the new GeForce GPU driver v259.32 beta and NVIDIA 3D Vision driver v259.32 beta. The update adds 3D Vision streaming support for Firefox 4 and Google Chrome web browsers as well as the 3D Vision profiles released in the 1.33 beta driver from few days ago. Lets hope that this driver also fixes the issues that some people had with Silverlight-based 3D Vision streaming when stopping the stream, as well as SLI configurations not being supported…

I’m sure that some of you have had their 3x 120Hz 3D-capable monitors along with two Fermi cards in SLI ready and waiting for some time, but now the driver version 258.69 is finally available with support for the 3D Vision Surround. Now bear in mind that this is a beta driver and there is a GPU driver and a 3D Vision driver version 258.69 and you need both in order to be able to take advantage of the 3D Vision Surround technology supported in them. They are both packed as a 3D Vision Driver CD version 1.31 beta, so it is easier to download the full package all at once, as is has the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers all in one package.

Besides the addition of support for the 3D Vision Surround technology, the new drivers also come with a fix for the problem with the ViewSonic PJD 6531w not being detected by the 3D Vision Setup Wizard. The new driver also adds support for new 3D Vision-ready projectors – Acer X110, Optoma GT360, NEC NP216. There are also two new 3D Vision game profiles for Alpha Protocol and Blur, along with updated profiles for the following games: Order of War, Serious Sam the Second Encounter, World of Warcraft.

Today Nvidia has released a new and updated 3D Vision driver in the form of full CD including the GeForce GPU driver v257.21 and 3D Vision driver v257.21 WHQL versions, not betas as well as making available both drivers separately. The good thing about the full driver CD version 1.29 is that it includes both drivers for the 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, so you can use it to install 3D Vision on multiple machines with a single download. The new driver adds support for 3D Vision Streaming which will support upcoming 3D Vision enabled streaming video, including actually taking advantage of 3D content streaming like it was demonstrated during Computex with Microsoft’s Silverlight technology. There is also support for GPU accelerated Blu-ray 3D playback when using compatible Blu-ray 3D player software from companies such as CyberLink and Arcsoft (already available in the last beta driver). Also there is support for GeForce GTX 480, GeForce GTX 470, and GeForce GTX 465 as well introduced in the last beta release as well as the support for the new 3D Vision-Ready LCDs: ASUS VG236H, LG W2363D 120 Hz, LG W2363DB 120 Hz (the LG is becoming available already in some countries and the Asus should start appearing probably next month).

The new release 257 driver also comes with new 3D Vision profiles for the following games: Alice in Wonderland, FIFA Online (2010), iRacing Demo, Heaven Benchmark, Mafia II, Lost Planet 2, Sam & Max – Beyond Time and Space, Settlers VII, Split Second, StarCraft II, Stone Giant and Toy Story 3 (most of which already introduced in the 257.15 beta already).

And here is the list of the updated 3D Vision game profiles:
- Battlefield Bad Company 2 – updated in-game compatibility message
- BioShock 2 – updated in-game compatibility message
- Metro 2033: The Last Refuge – updated in-game compatibility message

As promised a few days ago Nvidia has released the first official beta driver from the new Release 256 family of drivers (versions 256.xx to 259.xx), it is the 257.15 GPU beta driver and along with it also an update for the 3D Vision driver also version 257.15. Among the features of the new GPU driver is the addition of support for Blu-ray 3D with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, although we still need the software players with Blu-ray 3D support to come out (should happen pretty soon). There is also an increase in performance for GeForce GTX 400 Series GPUs in several PC games and a new NVIDIA Control Panel setup page for SLI and PhysX for better control over multi-gpu configurations. There are also other additional features and improvements for SLI and CUDA users as well as some bug fixes in the new 257.15 driver. Still no support for the 3D Vision Surround in this version of the driver, however such should be available by the end of the next month in a new driver release according to Nvidia (end of June).

The new 3D Vision 257.15 driver also has some new improvements, but not so significant as with the GPU driver. The new 3D Vision driver adds supports for the upcoming GeForce GTX 465 GPUs; the new 3D Vision-Ready LCDs ASUS VG236H, LG W2363D 120 Hz, LG W2363DB 120 Hz; and the 3D Vision-ready Projectors ViewSonic PJD6251 and ViewSonic PJD6531w. There are also profiles for the following games/applications: Alice in Wonderland, iRacing Demo, StarCraft II, Lost Planet 2, Stone Giant and Heaven Benchmark. You can download the 3D Vision driver 257.15 as a separate download or get the Full CD with v1.27 that contains both the GPU and 3D Vision Driver for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

There is still no update for the 3D Vision full CD version for notebook users, but you can download the Verde Notebook driver version 257.15 too and then just install the 3D Vision Driver only and you can get the needed support for your laptop weather it has a 120Hz built-in screen or you use and external 120Hz LCD monitor with it.

Yesterday Nvidia has released a new 3D Vision Driver CD version 1.25 that included GPU and 3D Vision drivers version 197.45, intended for the owners of older GPUs that are using 3D Vision (not for the new Fermi-based solutions as owners of these should go for 197.41). Today the 3D Vision Driver CD v1.25 has been updated to include WHQL video drivers so if you’ve downloaded it yesterday, you should redownload the updated version now. The new 3D Vision driver adds support for LG W2363D 120Hz LCD display that will probably soon be available on the market and that is a very good news as more and more 3D-capable LCD displays are becoming available. The Viewsonic projector updates and fixes that were introduced in the 3D Vision drivers for Fermi (197.41) along with the game profiles are also available in this release, so you are not missing anything even if you don’t yet own a GTX 470 or 480.

Now we officially have a GPU driver version 197.41 that supports the new Fermi-based GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 cards and Nvidia also has released a 3D Vision driver 197.41 that is designed to be installed only on the GTX 470/480. So if you happen to be one of the first lucky owners of a brand new Fermi-based video (I still see only pre-orders being taken) you should download and install these, especially if you wish to use your new powerful GPU for gaming in stereo 3D with 3D Vision. Have in mind that according to Nvidia the new 3D Vision driver 197.41 only supports GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 and not other cards so you should not try to install it on others!

The new 3D Vision driver for Fermi comes with a fix for a problem with ViewSonic projector timings for models PJD6210-3D, PJD6220-3D, PJD5351 and PJD5111 and update to include support for ViewSonic projector models PJD6381, PJD6211, PJD6221, PJD6241, PJD5112. New 3D Vision profiles for the following two games: Alice in Wonderland and StarCraft II Beta, and updated profiles for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, BioShock 2, Metro 2033: The Last Refuge, Napoleon: Total War. These updates and new features will probably very soon be available in an update of the 3D Vision driver that will cover all video cards. Also you should have in mind that in this driver there is still no support for 3D Vision Surround!

It seems that Nvidia has decided to finally update the notebook drivers to the latest version 197.16 to have the latest features and performance improvements and to bring official support for the GeForce 300M series GPUs that are starting to appear. Also the mobile drivers now seem to be called Nvidia Verde Notebook Drivers, probably to have something to differentiate them from the desktop drivers. Along with that Nvidia has released an updated driver CD version 1.24 that includes the latest GPU driver version 197.16 along with the 3D Vision Driver version 197.16. What is interesting in this driver is the first to officially support 3D Vision usage on a laptop (other than the 3D-ready Asus G51J 3D) with the help of an external display. This driver also supports the Asus G51J 3D laptop that has a built-in 120Hz LCD panel, so you should update if you already have one of these laptops as the latest driver CD for it was 1.17 which is already quite old.

Now what came as a bit of disappointment is the fact that the new Nvidia Verde Notebook 3D Vision Driver CD v1.24 is intended for supporting only notebooks using the latest GeForce 200M and 300M series GPUs (but that is according to Nvidia). Another interesting bit of information on the support page for the new driver CD suggests that the Blu-ray 3D playback (3rd party software required) is going to work only on the mobile 300M series of GPUs. I’ve tried to install the new driver on my Dell XPS M1730 laptop with dual 9800M GT in SLI and I everything installed smoothly and worked like a charm. The GPU driver recognized the video cards and installed without problem, then the 3D Vision driver complained (before connecting the external 120Hz display) of not finding a compatible panel. The interesting thing is that after that there was no Stereoscopic 3D panel present in the NVIDIA Control panel, but after connecting an external 120Hz LCD monitor the Stereoscopic 3D control panel appeared and the stereo 3D mode was working just fine.

Currently the 3D Vision driver for notebooks supports the usage of external 3D projector, 3D-ready DLP HDTVs or 120Hz LCD, but with the upcoming availability of the NVIDIA 3DTV Play software we are probably going to get support for also using our notebooks as a source for 3D content after connecting them through HDMI to the TV set (no need to have HDMI 1.4 on the laptop, only on the TV). This will however probably require you to purchase the 3DTV Play software, although this is still not very clear as Nvidia has promised to provide the software for free to current 3D Vision owners.

And the stupid thing of actually not being able to enable the free 3D Vision Discover mode on your laptop is still present as you get the quite well known error message that your laptop LCD panel is not qualified for 3D Vision as it is not 120Hz. But then again for anaglyph mode you don’t need a special panel, so forget about trying out the “free” anaglyph mode with the 3D Vision on your laptop once again (or go for an older 3D Vision drivers and modify them to work on your laptop)… but then again it is easier to go for other alternatives also offering free anaglyph mode that actually does work!

After keeping silent for quite some time Nvidia has just released an updated full 3D Vision CD version 1.23 that includes updated GPU and 3D Vision drivers to the latest version 197.13. As expected this new 3D Vision update includes a lot of new profiles for games that came out recently or are due to be released soon such as: Assassins Creed II, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, BioShock 2, Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033: The Last Refuge, Ruse and others, including some fixed profiles for already available games that help in getting rid of some issues. The new full driver CD contains the needed drivers for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 and supports all the currently available 120Hz LCD monitors. The only thing that is not listed as supported is the Asus G51J 3D laptop that still requires a separate driver which is a bit old version already as it is 1.17.
