ViewSonic is at it again with yet another 3D compatible DLP projector that should also be compatible with Nvidia’s 3D Vision active shutter glasses (still not certified, but probably will soon be). This projector is with XGA (1024×768) native resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio, but what is improved here is the brightness and contrast levels, along with the lap life when compared to the other 3D models from the company. The lamp life is 4000 / 6000 hours (normal/eco-mode), with the projector capable of providing brightness of up to 3200 ANSI lumens and contrast ratio of 3200:1. The recommended price of the projector is $1249, which is a bit expensive, but is expected with these specs… normally this model is designed to provide bright enough and visible projected image in brighter environments.

As you can see from the back picture of the ViewSonic PJD6241 projector, it is still relying on analogue DSUB15 connectors for use with the PC and you need to use this way to connect the device to your computer in order to be able to use it in 3D mode. What is required to view the projected image with 3D Vision glasses is to setup the projector to work on the supported 120Hz refresh rate, like it is with all other 3D DLP projectors out there (not that there are too much). It seems that ViewSonic has prepared this model to be used for educational purpose in not so dark classrooms, but nothing will prevent you taking it home to enjoy playing games and watching movies in stereoscopic 3D mode…

I’ve recently mentioned that Acer is going to release its first 120Hz gaming LCD display very soon – the Acer Aspire GD245HQ, which will be a 24-inch Full HD monitor (the first on the market with that size and features). You can see how the GD245HQ looks like on the image above, but it seems that Acer won’t be leaving things with just that 3D-ready display as there is info that the company is also preparing a bit smaller 23-inch (judging from the model number) version that will be called Acer Aspire GD235HZ. Unfortunately there is still no information regarding this new model, but I pretty much suspect that it will be based on the recently announced 23″ 120Hz Full HD LCD panels from LG that I’ve also mentioned and the specifications should be pretty much similar to the ones of the 24″ display. Still it is interesting to note that we are going to have more options in terms of size and resolution when we are considering what display to choose to build a gaming system with Nvidia’s 3D Vision active shutter glasses. Just don’t forget the fact that playing in stereoscopic 3D mode on 1920×1080 resolution will require a more powerful video card than for the currently available 22″ 120Hz LCDs with native resolution of 1680×1050 pixels. That is of course only if you want to play at the native resolution of the display (and who would not want that) with high details in the latest games and when you invest in a 3D Vision gaming PC you are most likely to want that, right?

On a side note, it seems that Acer has just started taking orders and producing the 24-inch Aspire GD245HQ monitors, meaning that there will be some delay with their availability (as I suspected) and they’ll actually be available on the market in January/February (depending on the country). As for me, I hope to have one of these displays available for testing as early as the beginning of February, but this is still not a sure thing…

Update: It seems that Acer Aspire GD235HZ won’t be using different hardware, but actually is the same monitor as the GD245HQ, just a different part number for another region!

There is some information on the net already that Acer will most likely be the first company to offer a 23,6″ LCD monitor that will offer Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution and of course being with a 120Hz panel. This means that most likely Acer will be the first company to release on the market a Full HD monitor that will be compatible with GeForce 3D Vision, and this monitor seems to be right about to hit the shelves. Furthermore this gaming display should not be a lot more expensive compared to the already available 22″ offers from Samsung and ViewSonic that are still the only ones with 120Hz panels on the market so far. Of course we’ll have to wait and see until this new display is available on the market, but I’m eagerly anticipating it already… ;)
