Have you heard about the 3D Consortium? I certainly haven’t, or at least up until a few days ago. It seems that HP was a founding member of the 3D Consortium – an organization with a goal to promote using the stereoscopic 3D technologies the right way, no matter what type of the content or the medium. HP and the members of the 3D Consortium are trying to overcome the technology challenges that are currently standing in the way of Stereoscopic 3D content in the form of games, photos, movies and so on to become mainstream. The idea is not only to help drive the technology for that, but also to achieve quality 3D content produced the right way and of course to promote the adoption of industry wide 3D standards. However, looking at the current members of the 3D Consortium I can say that the focus at the moment is mainly on 3D video and movie productions, but I suppose this organization can be extended much more… it just needs a little bit of promoting, and that is something that seems to be lacking at the moment. Besides HP, the current members of the 3D Consortium include NCM Media Networks, Walt Disney Pictures, Imageworks, NBA, Mark Lewis Radio Pictures and DreamWorks Animation.
