3DSteroid is an Android application written by Masuji Suto that allows you the easy taking, adjusting and saving stereoscopic 3D photos with a non-3D capable Android-based smartphone. The application uses the single camera available on pretty much any Android smartphone to guide you to take two photos and combine them into a 3D one and then view the 3D photos you’ve taken using multiple viewing methods. And now the latest version of the program also brings support for using the autostereoscopic 3D displays of 3D-capable smartphones such as the LG Optimus 3D, HTC EVO 3D and such, but still the software is not yet able to take advantage of the 3D cameras that some of these devices also have. The 3DSteroid application has two different versions, the normal one which is free and fully functional and the 3DSteroid Pro version that has some extra features. The Pro version allows the taking of higher resolution photos and also supports automatic adjustment for the two photos that are being combined into a stereoscopic 3D photo. Both versions are available on the Android market or as Google recently started calling it Google Play, just follow the links below for more information as Masuji Suto’s personal website hasn’t still been updated with the latest info about them.

SpatialView has made available their 3DeeCentral software for Android-based 3D-capable smartphones such as the HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D, the application itself is free and is already available on the Android Market. By installing it on your 3D-capable Android-based smartphone you can get access to the 3D content being offered on the 3DeeCentral platform, however not yet all of the 3D images and 3D videos from the PC version of the software are available in the mobile version of the application. At the moment of writing this post there was only one 3D image pack and 72 3D videos avaialble in the mobile 3DeeCentral for Android-based 3D-capable smartphones, but hopefully the rest of the content will soon be available as well. The good news is that there is quite a lot of free 3D content that you can download and try, I did test the 3D photos and some of the 3D videos available on the LG Optimus 3D smartphone and they looked very well on the device’s autostereoscopic 3D display. So if you do own an HTC EVO or LG Optimus 3D (LG Thrill 4G in US) smartphone, then this appl is something that you should try out on your device. And while SpatialView’s 3DeeCentral is shaping to be very nice a multi-platform solution for easy access to 3D images and 3D movies from different types of 3D-capable devices, the lack of a lot of 3D content available through it is still what is holding it back a lot.

Mobile stereoscopic 3D gaming is still something quite new, but the interest is there and is growing partly due to the Nintendo’s 3DS portable console and partly due to the fact that having a 3D-capable smartphone may be more convenient than just a portable game console (all-in-one devices seem more attractive). And with 3D-capable smartphones such as LG’s Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D already available on the market it is no wonder that game developers are working in order to provide stereoscopic 3D games for these Android-based devices. Still the games that support stereoscopic 3D mode are not that much, but there are a couple of them available already from Gameloft and some of them are bundled with 3D smartphones. However promotional stereo 3D trailers for these games are as hard to find as promotional stereoscopic 3D movie trailers… did I say promotional here? Anyway, here are a few stereoscopic 3D trailers for games that are bundled with the LG Optimus 3D P920 and that I was able to find on the device I was testing. You can watch them on YouTube 3D or download them in MP4 format (Side by Side, half horizontal resolution), so that you can get an idea on what to expect from stereoscopic 3D gaming on a 3D-enabled smartphone…
