A Vision in 3D: 3D Short Film Competition with Nintendo 3DS XL

August 10th, 2012 · No Comments · General 3D News

Nintendo has prepared an interesting challenge for the UK owners of the portable autostereoscopic 3D console Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL, by organizing a short film competition where you have to use the console’s 3D camera for recording the video. It is interesting to note that Nintendo has managed to get Ridley Scott to support the competition, though he’ll not be the one judging the entries. The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands aged 16 or over only, and you need to submit a video on the theme of ‘British Summer 2012’ by the end of Sunday 2nd September 2012. The submissions are sent over a special form available on the competition’s website with a file size limit for the video of maximum 40MB, after all it is a short film competition.

Entries will be judged by an expert panel including AV innovator Stuart Warren-Hill and Senna director, Asif Kapadia. The winner and runners up will be announced in early September and the 3D film shoot (not with a Nintendo 3D console), the prize for the big winner, will take place in London soon after. The winner will have the opportunity to work with their mentors and judges, to develop their idea for the 3D film shoot and with them help direct the professional film crew. The final version will premiere at the 56th BFI London Film Festival. In addition to the main prize there will also be 3 runner up prizes of a pair of tickets to attend a screening at the 56th BFI London Film Festival plus a BFI Membership for one year (or if you are under 18 a one year subscription to Sight and Sound Magazine).
