April 3rd, 2012 · No Comments · General 3D News

>Nintendo has started their 3DS photo competition in Europe and if you live in UK, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Belgium or Netherlands you can share your 3D photos taken with the Nintendo 3DS. You have six categories to choose from (Animals, People, Places, Objects, Nature and Augmented Reality) to take 3D photos in and the competition runs from April 2nd to June 17th. The most promising 3DS photographer will win the top prize – a trip for two to Paris and a photography masterclass, and the runners-up will be awarded Nintendo goodies. The competition’s website already has a lot of entries available for viewing, so you can take a look at what others are shooting and maybe get some ideas or inspiration to make something even better. The website however only shows the photos in 2D, you would need a Nintendo 3DS console to be able to see them in stereo 3D…

Nintendo 3DS Stereo 3D Photo Contest Starting This April in Europe

March 27th, 2012 · 5 Comments · General 3D News

Now that the spring has arrived Nintendo is going to be starting a 3D photo contest for 3D pictures taken with their 3DS portable gaming console in Europe. There is already a dedicated competition website online, although the full details about how to participate will be available on April 2nd. Meanwhile Nintendo has revealed just a few things like the fact that the competition will be running for three months and that there are going to be six photo categories for the 3D photos you will need to take. The categories will be Animals, People, Places, Objects, Plants and Augmented Reality, which should give you plenty of scope for creativity. And creativity would be required in order to do something really impressive considering that the built-in 3D camera of the Nintendo 3DS is with a quite low resolution. Still this contest seems like a good way to promote the 3D capabilities of the 3DS console and the portable console itself, so anyone with a Nintendo 3DS here interested in joining the 3D photo contest?

Free Online Stereo 3D MPO to JPS Photo Converter Tool

March 23rd, 2012 · No Comments · Other S3D Tech

There are already quite a few free and commercial applications that would allow you to convert 3D photos from the MPO format to something more common and usable such as a 2D view of the photo (left frame) or a JPEG stereo pair in a Side by Side configuration. Sometimes however you may not have any of these handy and you might need to get a 2D frame or a JPS version of a 3D photo taken in MPO format and something else might help you do the job. There is a free online tool that allows you to convert a MPO 3D photo into a separate Left and Right frames as well as to make a JPS Side by Side stereo pair of the 3D photo. The website works quite well, although it may have some trouble with larger MPO files and sometimes the JPS photo turns out to be completely blank, instead of what it should contain. Other than that it does a pretty good job most of the time.
