Thanks to biohemmet.se we now have the 3D trailer for the movie Astro Boy available in stereo 3D Side by Side format. The video is in 1080p half resolution (squashed) so you should not forget to select the 16:9 aspect ratio in the 3D Vision Video Player or the Stereoscopic Player when opening it to get the correct image proportions. Astro Boy is also going to be available in Blu-ray 3D soon, so we have the BD 3D movies covered pretty good with animation, but what about live action movies in 3D… not that there are a lot shot in 3D yet, but still. As usual don’t forget to leave your comments if you download and watch the stereo 3D trailer…

Now we have a final date when the first standalone Blu-ray 3D movie will be available and that is June 22nd in USA (and even earlier in Europe – 11th for Germany, 14th for UK etc.), for the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Blu-ray 3D release. Up until now we only had bundles of Blu-ray 3D movies with different 3D HDTVs being sold or Blu-ray 3D hardware players. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Blu-ray 3D is already up for pre-order at Amazon with a price of $35.99 USD and I’m pretty sure that others will follow very soon. Bad news for Avatar fans though, you’ll still have to wait for most likely a next year standalone release, as the November release will be bundled only with new 3D HDTVs as currently Samsung and Panasonic are offering some movies bundles. So stay tuned for more movies being released on Bly-ray 3D, and you can already get the ArcSoft TMT3 Platinum + Sim3D plugin with Blu-ray 3D support on the PC and CyberLink will soon have the PowerDVD 10 Ultra Mark II update with Blu-ray 3D support that could happen as early as beginning of July…

The fourth and final chapter of the Shrek movie series is now being shown in 3D in some countries with the premiere of the movie coming to others in June and July. Shrek Forever After / The Final Chapter is the fourth movie in the series, but is the first actually being done in 3D (not counting the 3D short that was released a few years ago). In Forever After Shrek goes to an alternate reality where everything is totally messed up and not the way we know things in the Far Far Away land and Shrek has to fix everything to make it the way it should be. If you’ve already seen the movie in 3D how did you find the stereoscopic 3D effect – was it comfortable, did it make the story more believable, the movie world seem more realistic or just the opposite? Of course you should also comment on the story itself – did you like it, how was the humor and so on, and so on. This is not the first 3D movie for DreamWorks Animation and the previous one earlier this year was How to Train Your Dragon and it had an interesting story and the 3D effects were quite good, but did this also happen to be true for Shrek 4. The movie started with about $21 million on its opening Friday and is expected to generate around $70 million for its first weekend in the USA box-office, and these results are a bit lower than expected, but maybe the movie will compensate with higher results with the international box-office results.
