Loreo 3D Lens in a Cap 9005 for Taking 3D Photos with DSLR Cameras

July 14th, 2010 · 6 Comments · Shooting in 3D

Loreo is an Asian company that has been on the market for quite some time, offering 3D lens in a cap type of adapters that allow you to take stereo 3D photos with a single camera. What these adapters do is to get the views for the left and right eye in a single frame which lets say better than average quality (depending also on the camera and the settings being used), but with a more affordable price and easier to use than actually buying a second camera and having to synchronize the picture taking etc. Of course the photo you’ll get with these adapters will be with half the horizontal resolution for the left and half for the right image (but not squashed!), thus getting much higher height of the 3D image then width and without cropping the image you will have huge black bars on the sides when viewing on a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect 3D monitor…

And the recently released Loreo 3D Lens in a Cap 9005 is designed for APS-C sensor format DSLR cameras and for 4:3 and Micro 4:3 format DSLR cameras. The lens has a focal length of 40mm and a stereo base of (interocular distance) of 90mm, making it ideal for portrait photography or shooting of close objects, but not too close or too distant ones. The 3D Lens in a Cap 9005 has a focus coupled Parallax Compensation system. So when the lens is focused on a subject at a given distance, the image pitch is automatically adjusted within the unit itself to suit the object distance. This works from 1.5m to infinity, however too distant objects will probably seem quite flat, because the parallax correction is not an all-powerful solution. The adjustment of the relative positions of the image pair can be viewed in the viewfinder, or with Live View in more recent DSLR cameras. The 9005 is also equipped with a pair of 58mm filter threads in the front, which can be used for attaching converters, filters and hoods.

LOREO 3D Lens in a Cap 9005 is available with a price of around $170-$180 USD and has different versions compatible with Canon, Olympus, Sony, Konica/Minolta, Panasonic, Nikon, Fuji APS-C sized and 4:3 and Micro 4:3 format DSLR cameras. And if you already own one of these 9005 Lens adapters you are more than welcome to share some photos you’ve taken with it, so that we can comment on the level of quality and the 3D effect that they produce.
