Dear board,

recently got my hands on a XMG laptop with Win7 x64 and a GTX 780M and tried to connect it to my Asus Monitor. The Asus Monitor worked well with 3D Vision and 3D Vision Pro from my desktop maschine using a DL DVI-D cable. Cause the Laptop has Nvidia Optimus I was told to purchase a Club3D DP to DL DVI adapter (CAC-1051). Connection seems to work. At least I get an image with Full HD and 120Hz (Windows Info and Intel Graphics Options).

GC is running with WHQL Ver. 331.82 for graphics driver and 3D Vision Controller. PhysX is 9.13.0725 and Experience is 1.71 for now. When plugging the IR hub in, it installs without problems and seems well in the device manager.

In the Nvidia control panel I have no options to configure 3D and by using the menu for programm specific settings I get no 3D feature in the list. I used Win+P to switch to the external device only and run my application with the Nvidia card. Any ideas want to try? I am also in contact with the laptop manufactuerer but they have no solution either for now.

Greetings
Felix

Laptops with Nvidia Optimus do have issues with 3D Vision support.

If you are not seeing the Stereoscopic 3D panel in the Nvidia Control Panel after connecting the IR emitter and installing the driver, then unfortunately you will not be able to use an external 3D Vision with the monitor.

As a general rule of thumb you should avoid getting a laptop featuring Nvidia Optimus technology for use with an external 3D monitor.

Thing is they advertise the support (by telling me to buy an active DP DVI adapter), cause DP supports 120Hz. But if you have no shortcut, I will have to wait for a final statement from XMG support and see where it takes me. Thanks so far.

The fact that you are able to use an external 120Hz display at a 120Hz refrehs rate in 2D mode does not mean that the laptop supports 3D Vision...

Uh ok. That is news to me. Never bothered to check the difference between 120 Hz and ready for 3D Vision. Guess I will have to contact the support on monday and discuss replacement because that was a selling point. Is there any way to check from tech sheets if a laptop with Optimus will support 3D Vision?

If the laptop is labeled with official 3D Vision support it should work, if not, then just avoid going for a solution with Optimus support.
Nvidia says that there are some laptops with Optimus that are 3D Vision compatible, but I haven't personally seen even one such product yet, all Optimus laptops I've seed or tested did not support 3D Vision... and I've tried a lot of models.

Got my hands for some tests on a laptop with a K4000 with Optimus and made it work with 3D Vision and 3D Vision Pro.

But got no positive reply from the support for the GTX 780M. The main difference is as you stated the entry in the Nvidia Control Panel.
