The BenQ XL2420T and BenQ XL2420TX are the first 3D Vision-ready 3D LCD monitors that come with support for 3D over DisplayPort 1.1, so you actually have an alternative to using the Dual-Link DVI interface they they are also equipped with for 3D. You should have in mind however that there are some specific limitations and requirements when using 3D Vision over DisplayPort with these displays and you should be well aware of these if you plan on purchasing any of these two displays for use in stereo 3D and that goes not only regarding the use of DP. The BenQ XL2420T/TX are still the only 24-inch 3D Vision-ready monitors that support the new 3D Lightboost technology for providing increased level of brightness when in stereo 3D mode, the other two alternatives are from Asus and Acer, but they are 27-inch models and they do not feature DisplayPort connectivity. The support for 3D vision over display port has been introduced in the R290 video drivers from Nvidia and more specifically in the 290.36 Beta drivers, so it will not work with older drivers.

The BenQ XL2420T is the more affordable version that does not come bundled with 3D Vision 2 active shutter glasses and it also does not feature a built-in IR emitter for the 3D Vision glasses. This is very important, because without the built-in IR emitter you will not be able to use the HDMI interface of the monitor for stereo 3D, even if you connect an external IR emitter to your PC. Using an external infrared emitter for 3D Vision glasses gives you only the ability to use the monitor in stereo 3D mode with a PC over the DL-DVI or the DisplayPort 1.1 interface. This means that the BenQ XL2420T monitor is more suitable for gaming in 120Hz 2D mode or using for stereo 3D content only with a PC, you should not get the T-only version of the monitor if you plan on using it with a PS3 in 3D or any other HDMI 1.4-based stereo 3D-capable devices, because you would not be able to. The HDMI interface present on the BenQ XL2420T monitor is 2D-capable only and you are of course not able to use 120Hz refresh rate over the HDMI, you need to use the other interfaces for the higher refresh rate.

The BenQ XL2420TX is the more expensive version that comes with a built-in infrared emitter and a pair of 3D Vision 2 active shutter glasses, so you are ready to use the monitor in 3D mode over DL-DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI 1.4. Using this monitor over the DisplayPort interface however has some limitations based on the GeForce GPU you have in your computer, so have in mind that if your video card is based on GeForce 8 series, GeForce 9 series, or GeForce GTX 295/280/260 GPU you would still need an external IR emitter to use the monitor over the DP interface. Of course this is only related to using DisplayPort, if you have any of these older GPUs you can still use the built-in IR emitter over the DL-DVI interface. If your GPU is any newer you would be able to take advantage of the DisplayPort 1.1 connectivity with the built-in IR emitter inside the display. And one more thing, currently NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround setups are still not supported over DisplayPort, so if you plan on using a three monitor 3D setup, then you’ll have to stick to using the Dual-Link DVI interface for now.

Nvidia has just made available a new beta video driver in the form of 295.51 with some interesting new features and improvements regarding stereoscopic 3D support and not only. It is interesting to note that Nvidia has not released a WHQL driver for a while now, and the last such one is 285.58 back from October last year, but there have been multiple beta versions released in the meantime. Not everyone however installs and users beta drivers due to the fact that they may have some issues and not work properly at times or with specific setups, so have this in mind if you decide to try the new beta driver as well…

The most notable stereoscopic 3D-related new feature in the 295.51 beta drivers is the addition of support for 3D Vision windowed mode on 3D-capable DLP HDTVs and on “Optimized for GeForce” passive 3D monitors, so you will be able to run games and applications in stereo 3D mode in a window on these as well. Other than that there are quite a few updated or new 3D Vision game profiles, and these are:

- The Adventures of Tintin – rated Good
- Afterfall: Insanity – rated Fair
- Black Prophecy – rated Not Recommended
- Chaos Online – rated Fair
- Da Vinci Online – rated Fair
- DotA 2 – rating upgraded to Fair
- Dungeon and Dragons: Daggerdale – rated Fair
- Ferrari Project – rated Not Recommended
- The First Templar – rated Fair
- Fractal – rated Excellent
- FreeStyle 2 – rated Good
- The Haunted Halls Reach – rated Excellent
- King Arthur II – rated Not Recommended
- Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning – rated Fair
- Kong Fu Ying Xiong – rated Fair
- Love Beat – rated Good
- Marvel Super Hero Squad Online – rated Good
- Microsoft Flight – rated Fair
- Perpetuum – rated Fair
- Post Apocalyptic Mayhem – rated Fair
- Prototype 2 – rated Fair
- Q.U.B.E. – rated Excellent
- Quan Qiu Shi Ming – rated Excellent
- rFactor 2 (mod mode) – rated Good
- Saints Row: The Third – Rated Not Recommended
- Shadow Company: Left for Dead – rated Not Recommended
- Special Force – Rated Good
- Tera – rated Good
- Top Gun: Hard Lock – rated Not Recommended
- Tropico 4 – rated Good
- Worms Blast – rated Good

A word of advice for the game Q.U.B.E. that is rated as excellent, the game kind of reminds of Portal in style and is actually quite fun and works really well in stereo 3D mode, however similarly to Portal the color palette in the game is often highly contrasting and this can lead to experiencing more crosstalk than usual. Also the new driver does add SLI profile for the upcoming game Mass Effect 3, but there is not yet a 3D Vision profile or rating for the game, and the previous games from the series had some issues in stereo 3D mode. Mass Effect 3 has the potential to turn out to be a great game to play in stereo 3D mode if it works properly this time, so hold your fingers crossed for when the game becomes available in March this year.

It is a new year and the right time to prepare a short wishlist of new features and improvements that I would want to see implemented in 3D Vision this year. It is not like Nvidia is not working on 3D Vision by improving it and fixing issues, but they kind of miss implementing some small, but important things. As for AMD, they have just announced some new stereo 3D features in their latest preview drivers as well as with the upcoming Radeon HD 7970 GPUs, so let us first wait to see how, what and when they will deliver them…

- Bringing back the monitor size user selection that was available in the old stereoscopic drivers. 3D Vision is not longer used only on a certain size of 3D monitors, there are users that use large screen displays in the form of 3D HDTVs and even 3D DLP projectors and the available depth slider may provide insignificant depth levels for them. It is not like it has been completely removed as a feature, but the drivers detect it and save a value in the registry, thus there are workarounds for getting higher depth but why should it be hard when it could be made earier and more accessible.

- Providing a visual indicator for adjustment of convergence level, two simple lines that form a X could easily be used to provide a more user friendly guide on setting up the level of convergence by showing you the converging point. This one actually sounds easier that it actually is, but is something that should be very useful for novice users just starting with stereo 3D gaming.

- Saving stereo 3D screenshots in PNS (Stereo PNG) format by default and not some low quality JPS (Stereo JPEG) wuth a lot of compression, making them small in size, but with pretty bad quality and you need to edit the registry to either improve the quality or switch to PNS. It would’ve been much easier to just use the PNS format with no compression for best quality stereoscopic 3D screenshots, the file size won’t be that big anyway.

- Not deleting all your custom game profiles every time you install new video drivers. Something that is very annoying if you happen to forget to back them up by exporting the keys from the registry and then importing them again after you install new drivers. The driver installer could check for availability of custom game profiles saved by the user and offer the ability to preserve them in the new version as well.

- More options for advanced users to customize and create stereo 3D game profiles, so that they can share them with not so experienced users and help the stereo 3D gaming community that has grown quite a lot already. And not having to wait for official driver updates that are not released so often and not always contain profiles for all games that users want to be able to play well in stereo 3D mode. Of course sometimes the game just is a no go for stereo 3D, but there are rare occasions and with some tweaking most games can provide good results in stereo 3D mode.

You are also welcome to share what features you’d want to see in the new 3D Vision drivers this year from Nvidia in the comments below…

The updated version of the 27-inch Acer HN274H 3D monitor with the new 3D Vision 2 and support for 3D Lightboost technology is here as apparently Acer is already releasing the monitor on some markets and I just got a review sample. The new monitor looks exactly the same as the old version on the outside, even the model name on the front is printed as HN274H…

Looking at the back of the display reveals more interesting facts. Instead of Acer HN274HB the model name apparently remains HN274H, but with a slight difference in the version of the model only. So instead of HN274H bmiiid as the old model, the new model is labeled HN274H Bbmiiid with a part number ET.HH4HE.B04. The fact that the model number remains as HN274H and not HN274HB and the difference is in the version number only might be a bit confusing for a lot of people and it is not impossible that somebody can get the old model instead of the new one. So be careful when looking for the new version with 3D Vision 2 and 3D Lightboost support and wait for a review of the monitor very soon.

Lately we’ve been literally attacked with a lot of hit titles to play during the holiday season and more are constantly coming out from different game developers. And the GPU makers have been pressed a bit in releasing a lot of new driver updates with fixes and improvements to make things work as they should or to bring better performance for the gamers. And today comes a new beta driver for the owners of Nvidia-based video cards in the form of driver version 290.36, the first release from the R290 series of drivers. This beta driver brings some new features and a lot of fixes, but as usual I’ll focus on what is new regarding stereoscopic 3D support and you can find the full release notes here in PDF format should you be interested in all the details.

The new beta driver has an interesting new feature for 3D Vision, it adds support for 3D Vision over the native DisplayPort 1.1 connection available on the new BenQ XL2420T and BenQ XL2420TX monitors (supporting 3D Lightboost technology). These are apparently the first 3D Vision-ready 3D monitors with DisplayPort available, so Nvidia has also found a reason to add support for 3D Vision to work over DisplayPort as well. Previously DisplayPort was only used together with active adapters to convert it to Dual-Link DVI, mostly for output from laptops that did not have DL-DVI interface, but now you should be able to directly connect one of these BenQ 3D monitors and use it in 3D mode.

The new driver also comes with added or updated the following 3D Vision game profiles:

- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – rated Good
- Cang Sheng – rated Good
- Diablo 3 – rated Good
- Fei fei – rated Good
- Final Combat – rated Good
- L.A. Noire – updated rating to 3D Vision Ready
- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 – rated Fair
- Qian Nv You Hun Online – rated Good
- QQ Xi You – rated Good
- Sonic Generations – rated Good
- Xian Tu – rated Good
- Yong Bing Tian Xia Online – rated Good

There are a lot of Asian games being added with a rating Good, L.A. Noire is apparently finally fixed, MW3 should also work better in 3D. There are also some specific fixes for 3D Vision, 3DTV Play and stereo 3D in various specific situations and hardware combinations that you can read about in the detailed release notes I’ve linked already. But based on the user experience from the first people that have installed the new beta drivers and the issues and complaints that some of them are having, especially in stereo 3D mode, I would not advice you to hurry and install the beta, you may wish to wait for the WHQL release. But if you do install the 290.36 beta, you are welcome to share your feedback in the comments below…

There were already a few people that complained of not being able to make their 3D Vision 2 active shutter glasses work with the new Asus VG278H 3D monitor that comes with integrated IR emitter. And apparently some units do have a hardware issue with the IR emitter itself and the problem is not software related at all. So if you have a similar problem you can get into the monitor’s menu and take a look at the Information menu of the display to see if your monitor also does not detect the IR emitter as connected (as in the photo above posted by milkman in the forum). If you see the red error message then there is something wrong with the emitter and it is a hardware issue and not a software one, so you should get a replacement unit as clearly you’ve got a defective one. Normally the Information menu should not have the red error message and then the issues of not being able to make the 3D glasses activate could be software related. So make sure to check what your Asus VG278H monitor reports as it could save you a lot of trouble…

Earlier this year I was able to do a quick test of the stereo 3D performance of the 17-inch Asus G73JW ROG 3D gaming laptop and recently I’ve had the chance to do a quick test of the smaller 15.6-inch Asus G53SX 3D gaming laptop. The unit I’ve got for testing has tuned out to be with GeForce GTX 460M video card and the currently available on the market version of this laptop comes with the slightly faster and newer GTX 560M. Also have in mind that not all versions of Asus G53SX come with a 3D display and 3D Vision active shutter glasses, there are versions with 2D only Full HD displays, so be careful not to mistake them. Also have in mind the fact that the Asus G53SX 3D gaming laptop comes bundled with 3D Vision and not the latest 3D Vision 2 active shutter glasses and that the 3D display built into this laptop does not support 3D Lightboost technology, so if you are looking for these features in a 3D gaming laptop you should wait a bit more. I was interested in this laptop mostly in order to be able to compare it to the bigger 17-inch model that I’ve tested earlier and to see if the combination of components that Asus have put in this model is more suitable for a 3D gaming solution. Of course measuring the performance in stereoscopic 3D mode as well as the levels of crosstalk/ghosting that the 120Hz display of the laptop produces in stereo 3D mode was another thing that I was very interested in. But let us do things step by step, first going through the basic specifications of the laptop, as I’ve already mentioned the model I’ve got was with a GTX 460M video card and I was expecting i to be with a GTX 560M. The difference is not that big with the newer video card just being slightly faster and all other components are pretty much the same, so you can just expect slightly faster performance with a GTX 560M. Have in mind that the Asus G53SX 3D laptop is not a new model from Asus, it has been available on the market for a while, but I was just able to get a test unit just now.

Basic specifications of Asus G53SX 3D laptop:

- 15.6″ 16:9 HD 3D (1366×768 120Hz) LED Backlight
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM
- Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz, Quad core)
- 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM Memory
- 500G + 500G 7200R SSH SATA HDD
- 4x Blu-Ray Optical Drive
- Windows 7 64-bit Operating System
- 8 cells, 5200 mAh Battery
- Others: Integrated 802.11 b/g/n, Built-in Bluetooth V2.1+EDR, 10/100/1000 Base T, 4-in-1 card reader ( SD/ MS/ MS Pro/ MS Duo/ MMC), 1x USB 3.0 port, 3x USB 2.0 ports, 1x HDMI
- Size (WxHxD): 39.1×29.7×3.0~6.0 kg
- Weigth: 3.92 kg

Note that this laptop does not rely on Nvidia’s Optimus technology and thus you should not have any possible issues in trying to use the HDMI port of the laptop to connect it to an external 3D monitor (supporting 3D over HDMI 1.4!) or especially 3D HDTV that uses HDMI 1.4 interface with the help of the 3DTV Play software. Also note that you have a Blu-ray optical drive, so you’d be able to directly play Blu-ray 3D movies on the laptop and the overall specifications of the laptop are quite good for a mobile gaming computer. I want to stress especially on the resolution of the LCD display, here it is 1366×768 pixels and not Full HD 1920×1080 and that is actually a good thing and you will see why when I go to the game performance testing later on.

A quick look at the color accuracy of the display of the Asus laptop, quite high brightness of 260 cd/m2, something that is to be expected form a good 3D-capable laptop as in 3D mode the brightness level gets reduced and “shared” in between both eyes of the user. And typical as with most high brightness displays the accuracy of the color reproduction is not that good with the factory settings, not that it matters that much, after all this is a gaming product and not something that you’d use for tasks where colors matter…

You can of course do a color calibration to improve the color accuracy, at the cost of some of the brightness, but since this does not affect the performance or brightness levels in stereo 3D mode it might be worth it. As in stereo 3D mode the brightness level gets maxed out by default and games are rarely designed with perfect color accuracy in mind anyway. The important thing is that calibration with a colorimeter can give you much better color reproduction out of this 3D display should you need it for something.

I’m moving on to the extreme crosstalk test photos with black and white to see how bad the things with ghosting in stereo 3D mode might look in the worst case scenarios, although you probably won’t see them using the laptop normally. As expected there is some crosstalk, not that much with the black, but more apparent with the white test image. And comparing the performance of the Asus G73JW Full HD 3D display to the one of the Asus G53SX the performance is a bit worse here, on the smaller screen. This however was not unexpected from the more affordable and smaller size Asus 3D gaming laptop and from a display used on a 3D-capable mobile computer for that matter, but lets us see how things look in some real world tests for crosstalk/ghosting.

The test with the sailboats 3D video shows that the situation with actual 3D content is actually quite Ok, you can see that there are just some faint shadows “leaking” to the other eye around the sails of the boats. Again slightly more crosstalk as compared to the performance of the 3D display of the Asus G73JW laptop, but much less than what you could see in the extreme crosstalk test photos.

Moving to the testing with the game Tomb Raider: Underworld, there is some crosstalk again… as expected. Again slightly more than shown by the Asus G73JW laptop, but still not bad and the level of crosstalk can easily be tolerated if you lower a bit the depth level as for the needs of the tests I have it set pretty high in order for the level of crosstalk to be easier to see. I can say that the level of the crosstalk/ghosting in stereo 3D mode on the Asus G53SX is pretty much as what I have expected, it did not surprise me either good or bad, but you it wouldn’t hurt if it was better.

The performance in stereo 3D mode of the display of the Asus G53SX 3D gaming laptop is not yet at the level offered by my personal favorite in terms of S3D performance and what is still the best mobile 3D display that I’ve tested so far with the Sony VAIO F series 3D multimedia laptop. However Sony’s solution is intended for 3D multimedia use and is not that suitable for gaming and especially for gaming in stereoscopic 3D mode, so apparently you cannot have the best of everything in a single product yet. Not to mention that Sony’s laptop is bigger and more expensive as well, not to mention that the company is not present on the market for mobile computers for gamers at all. The Japanese company only offers mainstream, multimedia and business laptops and the gaming is apparently focused at the consoles and not on the PC market.

Now let me turn your attention back on the GPU and the screen size and resolution that the Asus G53SX 3D gaming laptop comes with as this is very important. I’ve already said that the model I’ve received for testing is equipped with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M video card with 1.5GB GDDR5 video memory and that the currently available on the market version of the laptop is the same, but with the newer GTX 560M video controller. The GTX 560M is an updated version of the GTX 460M with the same number of stream processors (192), but higher operating frequency of the GPU and more video memory, so you can expect to get something up to about 20% higher performance (in the best case) with 560M as compared to GT 460M. And while the extra performance is always nice to have you can see from the benchmarks below that even the version with 460M is doing quite well in terms of average framerate achieved even in stereo 3D mode, let alone in non-stereoscopic 3D mode. This however is thanks to the 1366×768 resolution display as if the laptop was equipped with a Full HD 3D monitor you’d have to sacrifice extra details and effects in games in order to get good performance in a lot of more demanding and newer games. But let us see some average framerates from a few more recent and demanding games, so that you know what you can expect:

Battlefield 3
- High settings, not the max Ultra

The Asus G53SX 3D gaming laptop is an interesting and nice solution for gamers looking for more affordable stereo 3D-capable mobile product that offers a good combination of features, performs well and is a more affordable choice. The combination between the lower resolution and the GTX 460M/560M video card is apparently great for a 3D gaming laptop with a display size of 15.6-inch, so Asus have done a great job with this model. So have this in mind the next time when choosing a laptop for gaming in stereo 3D, and don’t go for a Full HD display if it is not backed up with a more powerful and higher-end graphics card. That is of course if you want to have a good experience while playing games in stereo 3D mode, but if it is only for gaming in stereo 3D mode and the mobility is not of high priority then you might as well consider getting a more powerful desktop PC for stereoscopic 3D gaming. The level of crosstalk in stereo 3D mode could’ve been less for a better 3D experience, but is still acceptable and will probably not bother most people that much, apart from the most capricious ones.

Yesterday Nvidia has released a new beta graphics driver version 285.79 beta with the focus yet again being improving the performance and fixing issues with the game Battlefield 3, without a doubt one of the most played games at the moment. Unfortunately there is still not patch for the game available to enable the stereoscopic 3D support, so we’ll have to wait even more for that to happen. Regarding improvements in 3D Vision support, it is mostly profile/rating updates and new profiles, but nothing that significant…

Added or updated the following 3D Vision game profiles:

- Airline Tycoon 2 – rated Fair
- Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – rated Good
- Batman: Arkham City – updated rating to 3D Vision Ready
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution – rated Excellent
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – rated Excellent
- FIFA 12 – rated Good
- Hard Reset – updated rating to 3D Vision Ready
- inMomentum – rated Fair
- The Lord of the Rings: War in the North
- Smash Cars – rated Fair
- Two Worlds 2: Castle Defense – rated Good
- Zombie Driver – rated Excellent

I can say that I’m a bit surprised that the update does not include a profile for the game L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition. Another surprise for me is the fact that currently the game Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is only rated Good and the game should be a native stereo 3D title and officially have support for 3D Vision.

The company Spatial View has been offering their addon called 3DeeSlide for iPod Touch 3rd Generation and iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the latest iPhone 4S for a while now, making these mobile devices’ 2D displays into stereoscopic 3D ones. And you don’t need to wear any kind of glasses as the adapter makes your screen an autostereoscopic 3D one, at the cost of reduction of the 2D resolution. This of course requires you to also get specially optimized content in the form of 3D videos and 3D photos, but Spatial View also has their 3DeeCentral – a website offering stereoscopic 3D content not only for the devices equipped with the 3DeeSlide adapter, but for other 3D-capable viewing solutions as well. Unfortunately the 3DeeSlide won’t make your iDevice capable of playing stereoscopic 3D games.

But Spatial View is now making things bigger, by introducing their 3DeeScreen product that does to your laptop what the 3DeeSlide does to your iPod/iPhone device – turns the display into an autostereoscopic 3D one using custom designed lenticular lens filter. The 3DeeScreen goes one step further by also adding eye tracking, using your laptop’s built-n webcam in order to provide better experience in 3D. And as the smaller mobile version, the bigger one intended for 15.6-inch laptops is designed for watching 3D movies and 3D photos, there is nothing about being able to play games in stereo 3D mode with it (although it might be possible with the help of software such as the iZ3D driver or the TriDef 3D Ignition). Regarding movie playback, and especially Blu-ray 3D movie support, the device should also be supported by ArcSoft’s TotalMedia Theater and CyberLink’s PowerDVD software video players, so you should be well covered. Spatial View’s 3DeeScreen is designed to work on most standard 15.6″ laptops with 1080p and 720p resolution displays and to be easy for installation and removing when you don’t need it (uses magnetized mounting frame).

List of Currently Supported and Verified Models:

- Asus G53J with 1080p display
- Asus N53J with 1080p display
- Dell Studio 1558 with 1080p display
- Dell XPS L502 with 1080p display
- Dell Studio 1557 with 720p display
- Dell Inspiron 1564 with 720p display
- Dell Inspiron N5010 with 720p display
- HP Pavilion DV6 with 720p display

Of course there are probably a lot of other laptops from different brands that will work with this addon, with the important thing being the fact that you need a standard 15.6-inch display in order to be able to use the 3DeeScreen. The product is expected to begin shipping on November 21st and Spatial View is already accepting pre-orders for $89.95 USD with the normal price of the product set at $129.99 USD when it launches. It sounds almost like a DIY solution to turn your normal laptop into a rival of the Toshiba’s autostereoscopic 3D mobile computers Qosmio F750 and F755. So you may want to keep an eye on this product and look for some reviews when it comes out, I might be able to also do a review after it is released…

- For more information about Spatial View’s 3DeeScreen addon for laptops…

The new Asus VG278H 3D Vision-ready 120Hz LCD monitor has an interesting option in the OSD menu that allows you to control the level of the 3D Lightboost and thanks to that I was able to try some interesting things. In the review of the Asus VG278H 3D monitor I have already mentioned that there are some things that you can do in order to improve the results you will get when using the monitor. One example for that is to reduce the Contrast level from the default setting of 76 to 55 in order to reduce the level of ghosting/crosstalk in stereo 3D mode without sacrificing too much of the brightness and that is possible thanks to the 3D Lightboost technology that increases the brightness level. I’ve used a colorimeter to measure the level of brightness with the different settings of the Contrast level with the Lightboost set to the maximum level and here are the results:

Contrast 100: 202 cd/m2
Contrast 76: 160 cd/m2
Contrast 55: 111 cd/m2

And here is the level of brightness with the default setting for Contrast of 76 and different level of the Lightboost setting, from completely off to the maximum:

Off: 85 cd/m2
+1: 90 cd/m2
+2: 95 cd/m2
+3: 102 cd/m2
+4: 111 cd/m2
+5: 120 cd/m2
+6: 128 cd/m2
+7: 136 cd/m2
+8: 144 cd/m2
+9: 152 cd/m2
Max: 160 cd/m2

Notice that from the Off state of the Lightboost technology to the maximum level there is almost a double increase of the brightness level and what Nvidia was saying for the new technology was that it will increase the brightness twice. So you can say that this claim is true. Notice that the level of brightness you get with the decreased Contrast to a setting of 55 is the same as the +4 state of the Lightboost setting together with the default setting for Contrast. So you are kind of halving the effectiveness of the Lightboost technology in order to further reduce ghosting/crosstalk.

In order to further reduce the ghosting in 2D mode as well you can also play with the Trace Free option of the monitor. The default setting of 60 is quite Ok (the left part of the image above), but increasing it to the maximum value of 100 you get better results (the right part of the image above). You can see from the high-speed photos taken from the PixPerAn test software that the fast moving objects are looking better and have less ghosting with a higher value of the Trace Free function.
