The Game Hawken with Support for the Oculus Rift 3D VR Headset

August 27th, 2012 · 3 Comments · 3D / AR / VR / HMD

Meteor Entertainment and Adhesive Games have announced their partnership with Oculus to make their upcoming free-to-play multiplayer mech combat first person shooter called Hawken with support for the Oculus Rift stereo 3D-capable VR Headset when the game launches on 12.12.12. So this means that the DOOM 3 BGF Edition will not be the only game to support the Rift Dev Kits since we are still talking about development kits being shipped in December, with the consumer version of the device making appearance sometimes next year. Definitely good news and if you still haven’t heard about the Oculus Rift, then you should check it out and you still have a few more days until the Kickstarter project for the Oculus Rift Dev Kits officially ends, so you still have time to support it. With 4 more days left until the end of the Kickstarter project the number of backers is almost 8000 and the project has almost reached 2 million USD pledged by backers.

Really awesome news, considering that this will be a oculus-ready title and not a “conversion” of sorts. The fact that they are making a interior especially for the rift makes all the difference. The future is bright for the oculus, I hope they can pull of production on such a massive scale for the dev units.

Not sure if I will get the first version of it(I will probably cave and buy it). But its just awesome that they got game developers who are not only interested in it but enjoy it.

Excellent news, I just hope a few other publishers get on board and we’ll see support for the Rift really snowball. Judging by the devs lending it support in the Kickstarter promo video I’d bet we see some big titles including support for the Rift in the near future.

Having said that, much as I was tempted to pledge on the kickstarter I’ve had been burnt by my early adopter impulses too many times before… I’ll wait for the consumer version ;)
