GeForce 270.51 Beta Drivers with New Features and Performance Boost

March 30th, 2011 · 28 Comments · GeForce 3D Vision

Today Nvidia has released a new beta video driver version 270.51 after not being very active on the driver updates since the beginning of this year. The new beta version is offering some interesting new features and the traditional performance boost, most significant in the Dragon Age 2 game as well as for users with 3D Vision Surround setups this time. This is the first release from the Release 270 family of drivers and it finally comes with a NVIDIA Update feature that can help you stay up to date with the latest WHQL drivers by notifying you when a new driver is available and directing you to download the driver. With Release 270 drivers, the 3D Vision Controller driver is now included with all GPU driver installations, so you will no longer need to download and install this separately from the video driver. The 270.51 driver package includes version 270.47 3D Vision Controller driver.

The 270.51 driver also has new features added to 3D Vision window mode, including the addition of support for HDMI 1.4 3D TVs when using 3DTV Play software, including DirectX 9 games, Google Earth, and 3DVisionLive.com. The 3D Vision window mode now works with Windows Aero enabled and you can turn it on and off from the NVIDIA Control Panel. There are also performance improvements for DirectX 9 applications when using NVIDIA SLI and 3D Vision, as well as improved 3D Crosshair performance in Source Engine games (the driver laser crosshair).

The new driver also adds support for new 3D Vision Desktop LCD monitors: Tongfang LM2230W; new 3D Vision projectors: Acer X1261P, Acer X1261-3D, DepthQ HDs3D-1, NEC NP-V300X, Sanyo PDG-DXL2000; and new 3D Vision All In One PCs: Acer Aspire Z5673, Lenovo B520. There is 3D Vision Surround support when using 3D Vision monitors with built-in IR emitters. The new driver comes with new 3D Vision game profiles: Alice Madness Returns, Crysis 2 (including multi-player demo), Dead Space 2, DeathSpank, Dragon Age II, Duke Nukem Forever, Dungeon Defenders, Dungeon Siege III, Fable III, Faxion Online, F.3.A.R., Final Fantasy XIV, Homefront (DirectX 9 and DirectX 10), Lego Universe, Need for Speed World, Portal 2, Richard Burns Rally, Rift, Section 8: Prejudice, Shift 2 Unleashed, Shogun 2: Total War, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Test Drive Unlimited 2, The Sims Medieval as well as updated profiles for MX vs. ATV Reflex and Monster Hunter Frontier Benchmark.

Bloody, would you try how perform Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 and NFS World with the new 3D profiles.
I am away from my 3D rig, but curious about those games.
    Thanks :)

man half the game profiles in that list aren’t even out for another month and more! That’s a good trend if people are letting the guys at nvidia test and perfect the 3d profiles far before the game launches

  • 3 Bloody // Mar 30, 2011 at 23:40

Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2 still not Ok for playing in stereo 3D mode, at least Dragon Age 2 now works with higher framerate. NFS World is quite Ok. The new NFS SHIFT 2 Unleashed also is not comfortably playable in S3D mode, it suffers from the same issues as the previous SHIFT game had initially…

Anyone else experiencing very poor results with the latest 3D vision Controller?? I have 2xgts295 (atm) with these drivers installed. 3D vision settings (using the setup): LAN environment and 110 MHZ refresh rate. What I experience: I enter Dragon Age 2 for example , 3D vision kicks in…. and I see both the images (glasses are on). Basically I see in right and left eye both images. Quick fix. Disable and Enable 3D vision ( from transmitter or using CTRL+T). This fixes the problem for like 10 secs….then the “out of sync” starts again.
I want to mention: I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM with the older 3D Vision Controller…..
    Anyone else experiencing this??

If there’s a 3D Vision profile for Crysis 2, does it mean we can now use 3D dual rendering mode, true S3D, by using the Nvdia drivers instead of the Crysis 2 in game 3D?
There’s an option in Crysis 2 menu to enable 3D using drivers, but this option isn greyd out using drivers 267.24, maybe with the new driver it’s now available. Have you tried Crysis 2 with the new driver Bloody.
If there’s an option in Crysis 2 menu to enable stereo 3D using Nvidia drivers, than I guess we’ll have this option soon available, right?
Does the SLI now works for Crysis 2 using this driver?? No need for a sli fix or stuff like that.
Dead Space 2 looks awesome in 3D using the Dead Space 1 profile, just rename deadspace2.exe as DeadSpace.exe
There’s some little bugs, but the game looks amazing in 3D, way better than Crysis 2 in game 3D.

Helifax , no problems like that here, everything works just fine…

Franco, no luck with Crysis 2 yet, just a profile to recognize the game and give you some tips, interestingly enough the game is rated as fair by Nvidia with info about some of the issue like the gun halo.

I just recorded a small video..using BulletStorm as game( is not related to just one game..but in fact all are doing the same). Uploading youtube video as we speak.. will post link in a couple of mins.

Here you can see the exact problem I mentioned:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRWtcyJZI6Y

Maybe is related to GTX200 series ONLY with 3D Vision enabled…

  • 9 Bloody // Mar 31, 2011 at 01:07

I know this may sound as a sully question, but have you charged the glasses recently… when the battery charge is very low you may get similar effect… the glasses are loosing sync?

  • 10 Helifax // Mar 31, 2011 at 01:12

I have two pairs of glasses…both fully loaded…both manifesting the same….
As I stated earlier…this “problem” didn’t appear until updating… to the latest drivers… I said since I still have my GTX 295 card in my PC let’s give it a try with the latest drivers… maybe will help someone who has the same issues…

  • 11 Helifax // Mar 31, 2011 at 01:13

I tried using an older controller…unfortunately it is NOT recognized by the new display drivers ( meaning no 3D tab appears in nVidia Control Panel)….

  • 12 mihabolil // Mar 31, 2011 at 01:36

    Helifax
just gues, but does disable/reenable sli or restart change something?

  • 13 Helifax // Mar 31, 2011 at 01:52

I have just re-checked…using older drivers (267.24 as graphics drivers +266.58 as 3D Vision Controller) everything works correctly… So it seems that the problem is in the new release…. where exactly I cannot say… but I suspect the 3D vision controller….

  • 14 Max // Mar 31, 2011 at 08:19

The stupid, red warning message (like 3D at 100Hz, etc) has been removed finally? Or can be disabled?

  • 15 ken // Mar 31, 2011 at 16:35

    mine no longer syncs.

  • 16 Helifax // Mar 31, 2011 at 17:22

    @Ken

Are you saying that you are experiencing the same poor results?

  • 17 redman223 // Mar 31, 2011 at 17:48

270.51 caused a CTD in Shift 2 for me. Once I went back to the last WHQL drivers the game was working again. Just an FYI.

  • 18 park // Mar 31, 2011 at 19:04

is there any 1 can do windowed mode s3d by using this driver on 3dtv?

i am using samsung 55c8000 , but i can not enable it yet
    does it work really?

  • 19 Rhialto // Mar 31, 2011 at 20:20

“Beta” guys… so may well need some tuning and hopefully they will fix your issue before going final and WHQL.

  • 20 Mathew Orman // Mar 31, 2011 at 21:31

I have several games failed to load after this beta install.

    @Helifax

I have exactly the same problem with my 580 SLi setup and these drivers.

  • 22 ken // Apr 1, 2011 at 02:55

    trying older and older betas.
finally it took (this system) going to 1.44, everything is working again.

  • 23 Johnathan Seagul // Apr 1, 2011 at 05:37

Facinating. Profile for the unreleased Duke Nukem Forever… or did I miss something here in Germany? ;-)

  • 24 Cim // Apr 1, 2011 at 05:58

I’m having a problem where my monitor (2233rz) does not exit out of 3D mode after the 3D program closes with these drivers.

I either have to restart the computer or change the resolution/hz to get it to snap back into 2D mode. Very annoying.

  • 25 nomiS // Apr 1, 2011 at 19:17

Seems that the profile for Rift MMO has not been updated ……

If I understand well, the list of game profiles you list will only arive in the final driver ?
    Correct ?

  • 26 bl1nds1de13 // Apr 2, 2011 at 04:01

My 3D controller did not work with the update. The light just randomly goes off and on. I just reinstalled the latest non beta.

  • 27 Helifax // Apr 2, 2011 at 22:08

I found a temporary FIX for the 3D vision problem! Simply use 100Mhz refresh rate instead of 110Mhz ( worst case) or 120Mhz. THis should fix the “Out of sync”.

  • 28 maumaux3 // Apr 7, 2011 at 07:32

I do not think I’ll download this version, it is with many problems … Versions for one will wait that works right, since there are many reports of problems. Excuse my English, I used the google translator to write, I am Brazilian.
