The New Medal of Honor Game in Stereo 3D Mode with 3D Vision

October 14th, 2010 · 13 Comments · Stereo 3D Games

The new Medal of Honor game is out now and I had a quick look at it and more importantly how well it handles in stereo 3D mode with 3D Vision and I can say that I’m not very satisfied with the results. The new Medal of Honor game is a try to refresh the series with something new and the game itself is not bad at all, I’ve actually liked it after just a few minutes of playing. However trying to play it in stereo 3D mode was a disappointment, but it was kind of expected considering the fact that the single player mode was developed based on a modified Unreal Engine 3 (pre-stereo 3D compatible version) and in result the typical issues associated with UE3 are present. Dynamic shadows do not render right, some objects are tripled which results in weird-looking halos around characters and some other objects as well as some other visual issues and the typical 2D crosshair and 2D HUD elements like 2D rendered names and icons that appear over players and objects in-game. There is also not yet an official 3D Vision profile available in the latest beta drivers for the game and we know that sometimes Nvidia can make a difference with the profile,e specially for UE3-based games…

The game itself does not have an advanced video options menu, so you cannot do much trying to make things better, although you can go to “\Documents\EA Games\Medal of Honor\Config” and try messing up with the “MOHAEngine.ini” configuration file to make things a bit better, although you should not expect too much of an improvement by disabling dynamic shadows and such. So while waiting for some patch for the game or a profile or something else that can make things better in stereo 3D mode I would suggest not to consider the game for playing with 3D Vision and instead stick to playing it in 2D. One interesting thing however is the fact that MOH uses two different engines – one for single player mode and that is the UE3 and another one for the multiplayer mode – the Frostbite Engine used in Bad Company 2. However I’m sure that not a lot of you are playing just about any first person shooter in multiplayer mode in stereo 3D mode with 3D Vision… ;)

I tried to play it in 3D Stereo… but is impossible… changing convergence setting only affect the gun, all the scenario stay the same way (bad)….

hope a patch solve or minimize the problem…
sorry my english, i’m from Brazil…

no 3d, no purchase, easy as that, right now I can’t play anything not working in 3d, and there’re a lot of games around that work well and more coming (COD Black ops I’m thinking of you) so I’ll pass. Reviews aren’t being too kind with it either

What games do you play in 3d? I am new to this 3d thing. I just bought a Samsung 3d Plasma 50″

When i tried to play in 3d in the open beta the game crashed. Now that i play the full game (not in 3d), the game crashes .If you search, there are already guides about solving problems like that.EA should release a patch soon.

Lower both depth and convergence to their lowest level and set shadows to ‘low’ in the game’s video settings. It’s just about bearable if you can focus on the action beyond your weapon. Nevertheless it’s still very disappointing.

When adjusting convergence, it’s not so bad. But I do pretty much friendly fire because of the friendly markers that are not aligned with the teammates !! I didn’t play a lot at this time. I will try a bit more later.

Sorry guys, but this time i really don’t agree!

    – Single player and multy are 2 different games (gameplay, graphics..) really DIFFERENT games. (i played single for about.. mm.. 2-3 minutes).

I think EA spent 10% for single and 90% for multy :)

So, if you played only single.. it is only the 10% of the game imho.

I made for you some screenshots, you can download here:

If you don’t play this game, you will avoid a REALLY AMAZING 3D GAME! this is one of the best that i ever played, it is so awesome O_O like you were in real war. (at the level of Mafia2 or Metro 2033, about the 3d effect).
only bad thing, is the reticle in 2d, but this is nothing, looking at the game!

You need only to not activate 2 stupid option, you can see the graphic settings in screenshots.

    Have fun!!

Thanks Loris – really appreciate you taking the time to put this together. MOH is now actually playable in 3D using your settings. Thanks again.

The singleplayer is awful in S3D because it uses UE3, the multi is much better in stereo 3D mode because it is based on the same engine as Bad Company 2… and you are quite right they are like two totally different games. However playing in multi with S3D can lower your competitive level and a lot of people prefer to play only the single in stereo 3D… and it is a no go with MOH.

The Battlefild Bad Company 2 is most better!

    -5 points for MOH..

Moh 2010 is a low copy-paste for bad company 2.

    BAD COMPANY 2 the best!

You are right, MoH Multiplayer looks amazing in 3d, can’t say the same for SP, what a shame EA uses 2 different engines for the game, if only SP looked like MP…I’m gonna put off playing SP for a while and wait for a new patch or Nvidia driver that supports MoH SP 3d, fingers crossed!

I ”played” Medal of Honor in 3D just yesterday, its a disaster, this is ridiculous. For such a big company as EA having BC2 in their portfolio. Is there anyway to find out when is Nvidia or EA games planning to fix this? I cant find any contact on Nvidia web.

2d games is not an option for me anymore, borring !

    Cheers

    Mike
