Sea Rex 3D: Journey to a Prehistoric World Stereo 3D Trailer

July 21st, 2010 · 6 Comments · 3D Movies & Videos

One pleasant surprise, someone actually doing the right thing and officially publishing a stereoscopic 3D promotional trailer in for their own 3D movie. Sea Rex 3D: Journey to a Prehistoric World is one of the few movies that has an officially released 3D trailer online that you can watch, unlike most with other big productions that hardly give any access to promotional 3D trailers to the viewers that have 3D capable hardware at home. Seeing a good 3D trailer of a 3D movie can make you go and watch the movie in cinema, but seeing a 3D trailer can have the opposite effect and make you not want to watch the movie in 3D and that is probably what most studios are afraid from. Still with the general lack of 3D content it is plain stupid not to take advantage of the big interest and large consumer base that already has 3D capable hardware by releasing promotional materials like 3D movie trailers, so guess who is acting stupid…

Sea Rex: Journey to a Prehistoric World is a documentary movie in 3D. In it you join Julie, an imaginative young woman, as she travels from a modern-day aquarium to the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Explore an amazing underwater universe inhabited by larger-than-life creatures including the powerful Liopleurodon, long-necked Elasmosaurus and gigantic Shonisaurus which were ruling the seas before dinosaurs conquered the earth. See science come alive in a unique and entertaining manner. Immerse yourself in a lost age, 200 million years back in time, and get ready for a face-to-face encounter with the T-Rex of the seas!

The 3D trailer is in Side by Side format, 1080p half horizontal resolution and is not with the best possible quality, but still good to watch, just don’t forget to select 16:9 aspect ration when opening it in the 3D Vision Video Player or the Stereoscopic Player. You can also watch the trailer on YouTube 3D along with a few other materials about the movie, although they are in 2D. As usual if you download and watch the video you can share your comments about it below…

Alright that´s look great, but why I have to set the aspect ratio 16:9? If the 2233rz is 16:10, the best aspect ratio is the same, or 16:9 is better?

Hmm, if the video itself was taken in 16:9 format, then you should see it in that aspect ratio, to avoid any distorsion.
Right? On a 4:3 monitor, you select 4:3 just to fill the screen? :)

The aspect ratio here is not connected with the aspect ratio of the monitor, it is needed to select 16:9 otherwise the video itself will be squashed and not stretched to the correct aspect. When you have videos encoded with half horizontal or vertical resolution you actually have less pixels and these pixels need to be stretched in order for the objects on the video to look right.

For the most part, it looks great. Some beautiful shots in the trailer, some clever shots, etc. Though the cgi eels coming out of the screen just looked bad – the 3D was fine, they just looked awful!

The trailer did a good job, made me wanna see the whole movie. Just no idea if it’ll ever come out in my area…
