The Game Transformers: War for Cybertron in Stereo 3D With 3D Vision

June 26th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Stereo 3D Games

There have been some of talk about the game Transformers: War for Cybertron and it looking very good in stereo 3D mode, so I’ve decided to try it out and see for myself (being a Transformers fan is not the point here). Seeing that the game is based on the Unreal Engine raised some doubts about the game being completely issue free when running in stereo 3D mode and my suspicions have been confirmed soon after that. There are some issues with shadows not being rendered completely Ok (like around your character) in 3D and with some lights (transparent force field windows for example), but other than that the game looks pretty well in stereo 3D. One more issue is the HUD being rendered in 2D, meaning that the crosshair is in 2D as well as the names written over the characters etc, but the negative effect of this can be minimized. Unfortunately with the game being developed for consoles and then ported for PC too the graphical options are typically not very advanced and you don’t have control over the needed effects and options that might help you tweak the graphics for more problem free experience while playing in stereo 3D mode. There is also no config file in plain text that you can edit.

I’ve found no profile available in the latest 3D Vision drivers 257.21 for the game, although the default settings are quite good in providing decent depth feeling, but I decided to play a bit with the settings. The end result in my custom convergence settings below is a pretty decent depth with some pop-out effect, while at the same time the negative side of the problems with the rendering of the shadows and lights, along with the 2D HUD is not so big, provided that you stay at lower depth levels. If you try my custom convergence settings please share your comments about them below…

Double click on the reg file inside the archive for your OS (32/64-bit) and import the settings in the Registy, it is as simple ass that.

The game is capped at 30fps. There’s an unlocker available that allows unlimited fps. Try it out, it saves the day.
