Avatar Will Be Available on Blu-ray 3D, but Not Earlier Than November

February 19th, 2010 · 5 Comments · 3D Movies & Videos

In a recent interview James Cameron has confirmed that Avatar will be available on Blu-ray 3D, but this will not happen before November this year, and it might not be even this year. Then again Fox Home Entertainment also is not giving much hope saying that they will not be ready for November release… So there is still quite some time and you shouldn’t prepare yourself to be watching Avatar in 3D at your home, especially considering that the 3D theaters where it is being shown are still full with people. Still the official launch date for Avatar on a DVD and Blu-ray (2D only!) is set for April 22nd, but hey, we want it in 3D too. And while you wait you can check out some Avatar fan materials…

well better late then never, hopefully it will be a 3d packed x-mas in 2010.
what I found funny on the cover: “from the director of Titanic”.
I wonder if they make Titanic boxes with “from the director of Avatar” :)

Will this require a 3D-capable blu-ray player and/or TV? Or will it be available in anaglyph or other passive 3D format?

For the sake of the future of 3D, I hope they do not release an anaglyph version. It will only confuse consumers to think they have no need to upgrade because they already have 3d and also give the negative overcast that 3D is STILL red/blue glasses.

My mother-in-law does not have a HDTV. They have a new tuner that gets the digital signal, now she says she has HDTV. People will not understand.

Anyways, I figured Avatar would be on 3D Blu-Ray later rather than sooner.
